Low prolactin

Hi

Im hoping someone can advise me. I have had a blood test and it states my prolactin levels are:

145 mu/l- 75-566 mu/l. Since dec 2016 im having terrible hot and cold flashes at night. I take pill every day and dont have monthlys due to taking this.

I am gaining weight too. I have suffered candida in past so am doing diet and cleanse as ive read candida can cause the flashes.

Am i pre menopausal?

You need FSH, LH and sex hormones tested (and an indication of time of the month) in order to test for menopause.

Prolactin is usually tested when they suspect high levels, which might mean a pituitary tumour. Lower prolactin can mean high dopamine or low oestrogen (is your pill a fake progesterone pill?). Low prolactin is not associated with any diseases (and yours is in range) but might possibly indicate a pituitary or hypothalamus problem - more likely if, when undmedicated for hypo, you had low TSH, and low thyroid hormones.

Thankyou for your reply. My LH was 32.3 u/l and FSH 55.2 u/l. The problem is due to taking the pill i have no monthlys so difficult to determine where i was in cycle when blood test taken. Yes my pill is cerelle progesterone only. My cortisol was 205 range 185-624 and igf1 37.7 range ( 7.7-28). I have done some research and the high igf1 may be due to a pituitary tumour. Went to drs today but could only see a nurse. She recommended sage for the flushes. Just hope that helps as appointment with endo isnt until 23rd april.x
