About Medichecks Thyroid tests. Do we know if they are sensitive to biotin or not? That is, are the technical aspects of the test(s) dependent on the streptavidin-biotin reaction. Useful to know for those who take biotin routinely.
Hi Diogenes,
Medichecks have just said:
"Yes, they are sensitive to biotin. We have been conducting a review of how biotin affects blood results and will be adding instructions to the website soon. Biotin is an ingredient in many lab tests so there are a long list of affected tests and research is ongoing. We are likely to include these instructions as standard on all tests initially.
The minimum amount of time that is recommended for omitting biotin is 2 days in most cases. To minimise the chance of biotin supplements interfering with tests we will be recommending 2 weeks of omitting them before taking a test. This should shrink as more research is done.
We will be putting guidance about biotin on the confirmation email that people receive when they order."
No, it doesn't apply for anything that already has a discount so Thyroid Thursday products wouldn't count.
