HELP! I requested Perrigo Liothyronine & jphave been given Teva.. when looking on here, pretty much everyone says Perrigo is great and pretty much everyone says Teva is dreadful....!?

My biggest concern is that I feel bloody awful already, I have been taking 20mcg twice a day for 6 months, no idea of the brand as it's been coming in unbranded bottles. I needed a repeat and googled different brands, and asked for Perrigo based on reviews. They've given me Teva. I've called them and asked the, to change it, I'm waiting on a call back, but if they won't, can someone please tell me something Goode about Teva!

I've just gone dairy, gluten and caffeine free, in a bid to feel better, but I'm now scared I'm gonna feel worse if I take this....

Fibefm,

Why not try the Teva and see how you do? Some members have said they like it and a couple have said they don't. Perrigo is an American brand so it won't be imported when there are UK brands available.

You can identify almost any tablet by looking at it closely and checking for any markings, colour, shape and size. Often, markings alone are sufficient.

I am not clear what your prescription said. If it was for 20 microgram liothyronine twice a day, you simply will not get Perrigo. Perrigo produce 5, 25 and 50 microgram tablets.

Pharmacies are reluctant to exchange medicines once they have been handed out as they are not supposed to re-issue them. Would you be happy at the thought someone could have taken a medicine home, exposed it to heat, light, humidity, even kept it for months in unsanitary conditions, then it gets given to you?

Hi Helvella,

I’m not sure you understood my post. I have literally just got home from the pharmacy with my medication - I’ve not stored it for months or exposed it to anything. They know me and I called them as soon as I got home. No they cannot have it back, but they also know I had only had it in my possession for 10 minutes.

My question was regarding the different brands, and their side effects. I’ve only read bad reports on Steve, yet good reports on Perrigo. You can get perrigo in the UK as my sister takes it. I will try the Tena until they re prescribe my meds but if I feel worse then I’m stuck.

I really do understand. We have seen people refused simply because they walked away from the counter. Their rules are to cover all circumstances and may be rather harsh to some.

You have not said what markings on your tablets in order to identify them.

Also, what is stated on your prescription? Yes - I know some people get Perrigo but if there is a UK product it is close to mandatory that you will get that. For example, if your prescription said "20 microgram twice a day" they would be very unlikely to provide 5 or 25 microgram tablets of any make.

Teva is the only lactose free T3, so if you need to dairy free this is the one you need.

Hi Fibefm,

Perrigo have sold the rights to a company called Mayne Pharma. So you won't be able to get Perrigo anymore. I am in the same boat as you. There is a manufacturer called SigmaPharm who do 5mcg tablets that your pharmacist may be able to get. Or there are other manufacturers of 20mcg tablets, the ones I know of are Mercury and Morningside.

Personally SigmaPharm were not that great for me, so I'm looking at changing to 20mcg tablets and trying Teva (that's what Boots can get me), or Morningside if I can find a pharmacy that can get that for me.

Mercury I didn't find to work for me.

But some people like Teva, and some people like Mercury, it really does seem to be a very individual thing. So, why not give the Teva you've got a try, and if that doesn't work you've got a few more options to try.

There is also Mylan - who make 5 microgram tablets - but you do not find many people saying positive things about them.
