Sheehan's Syndrome

I'm planning to make a private appointment with Dr Vanderpump, because he seems knowledgeable about Sheehan's Syndrome, a rare cause of central hypothyroidism, and the endo I've been seeing plainly has no idea. Can anybody offer any insights/warnings/commendations?

Very grateful, Ginny

Have you researched well before you make the appointment as we've read some of his ideas and don't agree. This is an excerpt from the following links:

Yes, I saw these- that's why I asked! He does seem to be the one to go to for initial diagnosis, because the thing is rare- the current one can't even get his head round the idea of secondary hypo, and refused to do tests. I thought, if I don't agree with his treatment advice I can change it, but at the moment I can't metabobolize any treatment, and so ill, possibly from other pituitary failure causes xG

He seems very conformist, which is a concern, but on the other hand he knows about Sheehan's and will be diligent in diagnosing it.

Don't know how to find one otherwise. Pituitary foundation kind but unhelpful . I think he may well be one of those ones who refuse to treat unless t3 and ft4 are below their limits, but at the moment anything I take causes hellish abdominal pain/nausea, and the Sheehan’s thing is just beyond me. I think it means you might need hydrocortisone which is too scary (I’ve got diverticulitis and you aren’t supposed to take it with that- it’s just all too much. Hypoadrenal symptoms are quite like hypothyroid, as well. Just no idea what aelse to do and feel terrible❤️

Perhaps ask for an ACTH (synacthen) test? There are limitations to this test though as it's more difficult to diagnose secondary hypopituitarism.

That’s what I was thinking of. The hospital endo is not helpful. I know there may be problems about treatment with Dr V, but I thought he was more likely to be able to diagnose x
