Graves and antihistamine tablets?

Graves Disease/overactive thyroid and taking Hayleve (Chlorphenamine Maleate) 4mgs tablets, four daily.

Is this alright to take to alleviate an allergic skin/eye reaction to soya yoghurts. I've itchy, sore eyes which are puffy and fluid filled underneath and hives on the upper arms and stomach and also red blotches on my face, although the blotches and hives have subsided a bit from taking the Hayleve yesterday.

I did not make the association of over active thyroid and antihistamines when I saw the GP yesterday. He is a new guy and rushed through the appointment as I was there as an emergency patient. I just read the med leaflet this morning. It says "Take special care with Hayleve if you have an overactive thyroid." A bit useless really as what is special care?! Argh.

Any advice would be appreciated if this is ok to take on a short term (I have a week's supply) basis. I have of course asked the GP's surgery to ask the GP and get back in touch asap but ...

Many thanks,

Neonkittie

NeonkittyUK,

Google "Carbimazole + Chlorphenamine Maleate" to see what interactions there may be. "Take special care with Hayleve if you have an overactive thyroid." suggests Carbimazole and Hayleve may not be compatible.

Rather than take antihistamine wouldn't it be better to stop eating soya yoghurts? Soya isn't good for anyone and there are plenty of non-soya yoghurts.

Thank you, I have spoken a couple of minutes ago to my GP who said he had taken that into account re thyroid as I had already read the med leaflet this morning. I know they don't have much room to detail on the sheet .. but that isn't very helpful to read .. "take special care"! It's just an alert to cover themselves, that's all. GP says a short course of antihistamines will not make any difference to my very stable (overactive) thyroid.

Oh .. I haven't eaten any more of those soya things. No way, I'm not into soya anyhow but there were so little unsugary ones left at the supermarket, I chose those. I am very food conscious .. just made one wrong decision with those! Many thanks for your reply.

I'm taking the antihistamines .. absolutely ... as I can't have these eyes or skin.
