Cassie101,

It depends how much thyroid material is left in the thyroid bed after surgery. If a lot remains it may be sufficient target for Hashimoto's to continue attacking.

I had thyroidectomy because of thyCa so the surgeon made sure to leave as little thyroid material as possible and Hashimoto's did burn out without thyroid material to target.

So the antibodies can be removed if they take it all away..

Cassie101,

The antibodies will just reduce until nothing if there are no more Hashi attacks.

How would there be anymre hasi attacks if it gets removed?

Cassie101,

The Hashimoto's attacks the thyroid. It is not a part of the thyroid so the Hashimoto's is not removed when the thyroid is removed.

I no that but when the hasimotos antibodies go away after surgury do they come bk or will there be no mre antibodies cause you said if there are hasi attacks ??

Cassie101,

Once Hashimoto's has gone the antibodies will go too. It won't come back if there is no thyroid to attack.

Cassie101,

Your Levothyroxine dose will be increased if necessary after thyroidectomy.

Selina1234,

You'd do better to write your own post.

I've not heard of radiation exposure causing goitre and hypothyroidism but it is known that exposure can cause thyroid cancer. It's likely to take a lot longer than 2 years to develop thyroid cancer.
