Hair loss and hashimotos.Any effective treatments?

I take 100mg Levothyroxine a day and GP is dismissive about symptoms which he puts down to me being depressed. I know I am not depressed, I have had depression in the past. My hair is increasingly thinning and now I have a rats tale of a ponytail. Anybody had this issue and successfully reversed it? Many thanks.

Hi HashiThyroid

I too have lost a lot of hair & I'm also Hashi's. There may be a link between low Vit D & hairloss.

I'd been taking a large loading dose of Vit D & am now on a maintenance dose, so I'll wait & see what happens wth my hair.

I'm afraid that's all I can tell you. If you haven't already done so I can recommend using the searchbar as I've found it very helpful finding extra information.

thank you so much. I didn't even notice the search bar 😂 My awful concentration span. I will try the vitamin D x

Me again..... should have said take a look at the vitamindcouncil.org site. Sorry, but I don't know how to attach the link into this message to you. I had a look at the site & a trichologist felt there was a connection with low Vit D & hairloss.

I'm sure you'll get more replies from the many helpful & far more knowledgeable members.

All the best

Hello, I don’t know much about the thyroid I’ve had abnormal results for 2 years and still fighting to get treatment. I also have hashimotos and noticed hair loss, eyebrow loss and dry skin as some of my symptoms. About a year ago I started putting coconut oil all over my hair once a week for a few hours then washed my hair as normal to get it out, coconut oil on my eyebrows every night & moisturise my body with it every night. My hair is now really long and has its thickness back, my eyebrows are starting to grow back properly and my skin is never dry anymore. I religiously use it though so think it has helped a lot. Just thought I would mention this incase you or anybody else wanted to give it a try. It might not work for everyone but I think it’s really helped my hair loss.

thank you that is a great tip I am going to try. Just bought some Biotin too, hoping that may help 😊

They are just a Levo/under replaced side effects, swap to NDT (Nat Dedicated Thyroid) drugs.com/sfx/levothyroxine... and life will be good again. Depending on where you live that may be easier said than done. But you only get one life so it worth making the effort - what ever that may be.

thank you James, hadn't considered it could be a side effect. Great motivation to keep trying with GP who insists I am just depressed when I list my symptoms 🙄

I have blepharitis and my hairdresser told me that her specialist had recommended flaxseed for her eye problems, so I tried it for mine. It did nothing at all for my eyes, but my hair thickened up. What a blessing. I take capsules all the time. Hope it helps.

Not heard of that one will have to look it up! Might try that did you just add it to food?
