Iron - can it be taken at night?

Hello everybody.

I've been trawling through old posts on Iron, I came across a couple of people who take iron at night.

Just wondered if anyone had any thoughts on this? If I could do this it would make life easier!

I would normally be due to take it around 4pm ish but have been forgetting as the boys are back from school & it's gets busy.

If it's not possible I'll have to set an alarm to remind me.

Wish there were more hours in the day 😉

Thanks everyone, much appreciated as always.

Paula101,

Unless you need to take it with food it can be taken anytime as long as it is taken 4 hours away from Levothyroxine and calcium.

Hello Clutter. Thanks for replying, that's good to know, at least I won't forget now.

All the best.

I hadn’t realised the 4 hours apart from Levo. I take my iron pill with a glass of orange juice at around midnight. I take my Levo when I go to bed around 02:00 or just after.

Does it really matter that much?

Ellie-Louise,

Yes, iron can reduce absorption of Levothyroxine.

I was always take mine late in the evening as away from everything else and have too much to take during the day. I've had no problems with doing this :-)

Hello Saggyuk, thanks for that. I took one last night & had no problems with sleep, so glad to be taking it again as I really need it & do feel the difference.

All the best
