Do you have any thyroid blood test results with ranges you could share ? So often heart issues are connected with the Thyroid hormones - either too much or too little. How much Levo are you taking ?

Have you had B12 - Folate - Ferritin - VitD tested - if any are low in range then you can experience issues with thyroid meds not working well.

Sorry no experience to share regarding the medications you mention.

Oops - and Welcome to Forum :-)

Certain beta blockers are given in cases of hyperthyroidism, to help block thyroid hormone production so they will affect you in an adverse way if suffering hypothyroidism.

Not sure about blood thinners, warfarin?

Hi, I take Levothyroxine but I also take Dabigatran, Felodipine and Nebivolol for my Af.

Take the 125 of thyroxine early in the morning and the others as directed. Was on Bisoprolol but that didn’t sit well, neither did Amlodipine a calcium channel blocker.

Also have Bisoprolol

Totally new to these heart meds and currently on levothyroxene.

If you think Bisoprolol is bothering you, try taking it at night. Do you have an over active thyroid? I am new to this forum but I know my brother in law is hyper and he has Bisoprolol

Personal anecdote :

A few years ago I suffered tachycardia (fast heart rate), breathlessness and severe chest pain and ended up being blue-lighted into hospital on three or four occasions because of it. Each time my heart was checked out thoroughly and then I was discharged with a clean bill of health for my heart. I was put on beta blockers after the first time I was hospitalised. I hated the beta blockers - they robbed me of all energy and made me even more breathless than I already was. In between the episodes of tachycardia and severe chest pain I suffered palpitations a lot, and had a lot of chest pain that was scary but not severe enough to call an ambulance for.

In the end I fixed the problem myself, accidentally while fixing another problem. I had severely low iron. My doctor wasn't really interested beyond providing one prescription for 2 months worth of iron supplements. Luckily for me, quite by accident, I discovered that I could buy these prescription-strength iron tablets without a prescription, and I could pay for private testing myself without involving a doctor. And so after the initial prescription I started treating and testing myself. It took me nearly two years to optimise my iron as best I could. In the process my severe chest pain and tachycardia became a thing of the past.

It was only when I realised how much benefit I was getting from improving my iron that I did some research and found that severely low iron can cause heart failure and/or heart attack.

Around the same time that I began supplementing iron I also started taking thyroid meds. I think that improving my T3 levels also had a big impact on my heart - low thyroid hormone levels are known to be very dangerous for the health of the heart.

But overall for me I think the biggest contributor was the low iron.

I was on propranolol for nearly 20 years, at same time as taking Levothyroxine. Couldn't tolerate Levo without propranolol

Turned out to be undiagnosed gluten intolerance. Weened my self off propranolol within a month of being strictly gluten free

Propranolol also apparently lowers magnesium according to Carolyn Dean in the book The Magnesium Miracle.

Propranolol is normally used to block adrenalin and treat hyperthyroid.

Strange you were on levothyroxine if hyperthyroid.

No I was extremely hypo with Hashimoto's. Incredibly high antibodies. Unable to tolerate high enough dose of Levo. Propranolol enabled dose Levo to be increased to 125mcg. Stuck on that combo 19 years.

Undiagnosed gluten intolerance and severe vitamin D, deficiency as result. Vitamin D deficiency never treated by medics during all that time.

Only made progress once I found this forum.....realised importance of vitamins......got private blood tests.....endoscopy etc ....more on my profile

Positive for DIO2 gene too

Sorry. Thought you had said you were hyper, not hypo: my mistake. I have been hypo and had Levo.

I think Slow dragon said these drugs are commonly prescribed to treat hyperthyroid.

This is why they are quite a bad thing to be on while you're hypothyroid - they reduce thyroid function.
