Hello, I'm on 100mcg levothyroxine

And 10mg propranolol.

I have been having palpitations which I've never had previously

Are they side effects of thyroxine?

Am afraid Propanlol and levothyroxine do not work together well. Propanlol slows down the conversion of thyroid hormones T4 to T3. Although you are not on a high dose it maybe that you are sensitive to it.

Why dont you go back to your GP and ask for a different beta blocker. Not all beta blockers slow the conversion of thyroid hormones.

Here's a list in case you want to show your doc if he doesn't listen :-)

Thankyou.💐

Just to add to this, Propanlol is often prescribed for hypers waiting for their first endo appointment to help deal with some of the symptoms, and for its apparent negative impact on thyroid hormones. The effect is small, but it still seems odd to prescribe this for someone who is hypo. (Were you previously hyper ?)

Looking back,I think I've always been anxious but have managed to suppress

It's come as a big shock for me not to be in control anymore

Thanks, I'll chat with GP tomorrow

I used to take extra epilim before I grew out of epilepsy

Maybe anxiety is not from being hypo

I'm confused and a bit cross at not being able to sort it

Sometimes a deficiency of magnesium is the problem. Take double dose of magnesium for a few weeks. Why do you need a beta blocker? Are you hypo or hyperthyroid?

Hi, my GP discouraged me from taking supplements

I told her I was taking magnesium supplement, she asked why!

Which in turn made me a bit confused and fed up with trying to help myself.

Ohhhhhhh. Serum tests are often false because your body will try to maintain a certain blood level at any cost. Magnesium is so important to your muscles and a deficiency is very, very common. Your anxiety is almost always from adrenal deficiencies and the adrenals use massive amounts of magnesium and also need vitamin C.

Please don't feel discouraged. Doctors are so ignorant when it comes to nutrients. This is the type of doctor you should search out, called Functional Medicine.

Hi, I'm now taking magnesium at night... As before seeing my GP, thanks for your advice.💖

I always took two magnesium/calcium 500 mgs. tablets at night and always slept better. I quit the calcium since they reversed the recommendation that magnesium should be twice that of calcium for both to work.

I am recommending nattokinase or serrapeptase to everyone with Hashimoto's or an autoimmune disease. Our pancreas or gall bladders may not work as well and aging doesn't help either.

Let us know about your blood results.

Have you got any recent thyroid blood results TSH, T4, T3 and TPO and Tg Ab antibodies

Hi, I'm off to GP for bloods results tomorrow

geegee888 profile image
geegee888 in reply tocrimple

Hi, I've had results from GP:

TSH 0.43. ( 0.27 - 4.20 )

T4 22 ( 11.00 - 25.00 )

Am going to do a home test via medicheck.

Those two look very good but FT3 is far more revealing.

Is nattokinase and serrapeptase a natural supplement?

Heloise profile image
Heloise in reply togeegee888

. Nattokinase is an enzyme (a protein that speeds up biochemical reactions) that is extracted from a popular Japanese food called natto. Natto is boiled soybeans that have been fermented with a bacterium called Bacillus natto.

The body makes and uses thousands of enzymes. Fruits and vegetables contain enzymes that help to digest each. I think serrapeptase comes from a plant.

Enzymes allow your body to function and maintain health, including helping to break down the food you eat to aid in the digestion, absorption, distribution, and utilization of nutrients in your as well as the elimination of wastes. Hi, Enzymes are types of protein that act as catalysts and help complex reactions occur.

Definitely need a T3 result also check for antibodies and also tests for Iron, ferritin, folate, Vit B12 and Vit D. Also have you had a change in brand of levothyroxine? A number of people on here have reported issues with TEVA. I can only tolerate Actavis. Hope you soon get some answers.

Hi, I'm going to have medicheck test, I'll ask my GP first if it's possible for them to do the tests.

Actavis is current make.

I'm so glad I have found this forum. 💖

Levo gave me terrible palpitations I had to come off and find a private doc to prescribe me ndt. Although propranolol isn’t good for anyone with hashis. I think they’ve described well why above. In a word yes. X
