palpitations
I have had palpitations when my thyroid hormones have been too high and also when they have been too low.Have you any blood test results?
How much levothyroxine are you taking
Which brand
You haven’t posted for a long time
Have you got any recent results and ranges
For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4 and FT3 tested
Very important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12 ideally at least once year minimum
Recommended that all thyroid blood tests early morning, ideally just before 9am, only drink water between waking and test and last dose levothyroxine 24 hours before test
This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip)

As Lalatoot i get palpitations if my thyroid medication is either too high or too low. It’s very important to test levels of TSH, FT3 and FT4 for a complete picture of your thyroid health. Also worth testing key thyroid vitamins- ferritin, folate, B12 and vit D.
I had this but mine was related to the parathyroid
I get palpitations too. Especially around the time of my period. My thyroid levels are not under control. Last time i had them checked dr said i was hyper instead of hypo. I also have low ferritin levels which apparently can result in palpitations. So i woul recomend you get a thyroid panel had test your vitamins including ferritin and iron levels. Low iron can also cause palpitations.
Hypothyroidism if untreated can lead to heart arrhythmia. It's what happened to me. Sometimes you can get palpitations as side effect of the levothyroxine. If your heart is sensitive. In my case we adjusted the dose until I'd stabilised and then increased slowly. Get your bloods done and mention the palpitations to your doctor. If you start to feel faint, breathless or any pain of course you must head to A and E. I have a good breathing exercise I use for palpitations if you're interested. DM me.
Palpitations can also be a symptom of menopause (not sure if that applies to you of course ☺️).
Hi katz I have had this condition for a while I have experienced the same symptoms if they become worrying contact your GP. But yes palpitations would seem to be a symptom.
Agree with all of the above. Also very important to check your vitamin levels. I struggle with low folate and often breathlessness and the odd palpitation when my vits are low.
How old are you? I also used to get them on the third week of my cycle when I was menopausal some years ago. The menopause doc said it was because of high progesterone levels affecting the soft tissue. They always resolved once the period had arrived but it was pretty scary until I understood the reason.
Whatever the case, best to do as these good folks suggest and get tested/make sure you are on the right dose of levo etc and that your vits are optimal. And mention it to your doc so that they have it on record and can take action if they think it important. It could be none of the above of course so always worth double checking.
I have always had palpatations since my Thyroid was removed. Heart man said it was because of higher levels of Levothyroxine, but you can of course get them whether you are high or low. Also check your blood pressure. You can get a 24 hour monitor usually available at the GP where you push a button when you feel anything and they can then see what is happening. Also think about ectopic beats which are very common but you don't always feel them. This all amounts to go to GP for investigation rather than guessing at causes.
Strength and Sympathy for you. I experienced palpitations after my TT. Not fun by no means. I later found out that one of the fillers in my T4 was one of the reasons. I'm not a good T4 to T3 converter . The heart has a large receptor sight for T3. That my heart was just not getting. And a small dose T3 was a tremendous game changer for me. And low Iron as well can cause palpitations I hope you get sorted out very soon.
Best wishes.
Can I ask which brand / fillers caused you problems. I am certain that my tachycardia is caused by specific brands as they stopped immediately I changed from accord back to mercury. Thanks.
I thought my recent palpitations were due to my T3 medication, GP ECG's, a trip to Cardiology, a 24 hour holter, then follow up ECGs and ultrasound demonstrated nothing wrong with my heart or valves. Blood tests for magnesium ( bottom of normal) and zinc (low - abnormal), (I know they are only ballpark), two minerals essential for heart health. Increasing both minerals and the ventricular ectopics have as good as disappeared in a couple of months. Plus being in a constant state of stress and anxiety, won't have helped either.
Interestingly, the cardiologist GP specialist was not interested in this (minerals), said if any further problems "would prescribe betablockers". Our bodies need minerals for health not a drug that "stops a function".
Hi Katz I’ve had this recently I’m hypo and switched to Erfa and the dose isn’t right yet, so for me it’s about unstable thyroid. I can see others have said same. My daughter who had graves 10 years ago and is now hypo also had palpitations. I sit down when I can and I’ve also found Aconite 200 to be helpful. It’s not nice so I do hope it settles for you soon. 💜
