Just started taking armor 90 I was on levothyroxin 112 mcg and cytomel 20 mcg. Will I notice any side effects from switching? Can I eat right away after taking armor? Do I still need to wait a couple hours to take vitamin after taking armor?
Armor: Just started taking armor 90 I was on... - Thyroid UK
Armor
Can't help on side effects but all thyroid hormone should be taken the same way ie on an empty stomach one hour before or two hours after food and away from other meds and supplements.
Ewilma26,
If you are optimally dosed on 112mcg Levothyroxine and 20mcg Cytomel you will be undermedicated on 90mg Armour.
There is 57mcg T4 and 13.5mcg T3 in 90mg Armour which is equivalent to 97.5mcg Levothyroxine.
112mcg Levothyroxine and 20mcg Cytomel is equivalent to 178mcg Levothyroxine.
For maximum absorption Armour should be taken with water 1 hour before, or 2 hours after, food and drink, 2 hours away from other medication and supplements, and 4 hours away from calcium, iron, vitamin D supplements, magnesium and oestrogen.
That’s the thing I was not optimally fused my numbers were drastically coming down and we were on a decrease at the point of switching from the levothyroxin and cytomel to Armour
What dose do you think I should be on for Armour then?
Ewilma26,
If you were optimally dosed on 112mcg T4 and 20mcg T3 the equivalent Armour dose would be 180mg.
Where do you find a chart to compare equivalents to the armor to the other meds?
You will find charts on the manufacturers websites. The problem is that most of us have found them to be inaccurate. They list 1 grain as being equivalent to 100mcg levo. In the real world, 1 grain is closer to 74mcg levo. So, if you follow their charts you will be quickly under-medicated. You have to consider what is in each grain. 38mcg T4 and 9mcg T3. T3 is considered approx 4 times as effective as T4 in raising fT3 levels, so 9 X 4 =36. 36 + 38 = 74
Does anyone have a screen shot of the Armour chart?
Will going from 112 mcg levothyroxin and 20 mcg cytomel to 90 Armour make me go more hypo or towards the hyper levels?
