You need to post some results for people to advise, do you have some recent ones ?
TSH 10.5 range 0.2 - 4.2
FT4 9.3 range 12 - 22
FT3 3.1 range 3.1 - 6.8
Yes you are undermedicated, you need to get your GP to raise your dose.
If you haven't had a recent blood test make an appointment for a new one. It has to be at the very earliest, fasting (you can drink water) and allow a gap of 24 hours between your last dose of levothyroxine and the test and take afterwards.
This procedure gives us the best possible result as TSH drops throughout the day and is highest early a.m. and that seems to be all the doctors look at, plus the T4.
You need a Full Thyroid Function Test which is TSH, T4, T3, Free T4, Free T3 and thyroid antibodies. If doctor or lab wont do all of them you can get those that aren't tested privately. We have two labs which do home pin-prick tests.
We really have to know what the Frees are and this is a link which is more explanatory.
thyroiduk.org.uk/tuk/testin...
When we are diagnosed as being hypothyroid, the aim is a TSH of 1 or lower with the Frees in the upper part of the range.
Doctor should test B12, Vit D, iron, ferritin and folate. Everything has to be optimal.
Always get a print-out of your blood test results with the ranges for your own records and post if you have query.
I have just seen your blood tests - copied:
TSH 10.5 range 0.2 - 4.2
FT4 9.3 range 12 - 22
FT3 3.1 range 3.1 - 6.8
You are poorly treated and are not on sufficient thyroid hormones. The aim is a TSH of 1 or lower and both Frees have to be towards the upper part of the range and yours is bottom which is why you do not feel well. You also have an Autoimmune Thyroid Disease called Hashimoto's due to having thyroid antibodies. Antibodies attack your thyroid gland and wax and wane but you can help reduce them by going gluten-free.
Levothyroxine is T4 only. T4 has to convert to T3. T3 is the only active thyroid hormone needed in all of our millions of T3 receptor cells and without sufficient T3 our body cannot function optimally. Our brain and heart need the most.
Follow instructions above on the best way to get optimum results.
You are neglected with such a high TSH and this could result in more serious consequences for us if doctors are untrained in how to diagnose/treat patients who have hypothyroidism and restrict us to too low a dose. This also includes Endocrinologists, otherwise we would not have more than 75,000 people looking for advice.
