Hi, this is my first post on here. I am 26 years old and 2 weeks pregnant and just wondering if I need to be on any Levothyroxine? My free T4 when tested was 3.8 and TSH normal though was up quite a lot so changed diet and it went down again. Hair falling out, feeling cold and more tired. Thank you in advance.

Hypothyroidism and pregnancy
Make urgent appointment with your GP and ask for full evaluation, ideally you need TSH, FT4, FT3, TT4, TPO and TG antibodies, plus vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12 tested
For successful pregnancy NICE guidelines recommended TSH under 2.5
See if you can get full thyroid and vitamin testing from GP. Unlikely to get FT3
Private tests are available

Vitamindtest.org.uk - £28 postal kit
Medichecks Thyroid plus ultra vitamin or Blue Horizon Thyroid plus eleven are the most popular choice. DIY finger prick test or option to pay extra for private blood draw. Both companies often have money off offers.
All thyroid tests should be done as early as possible in morning and fasting and don't take Levo in the 24 hours prior to test, delay and take straight after. This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results

Print this list of symptoms off, tick all that apply and take to GP
I would get your bloods tests done A.S.A.P and post the results on here it's a priority when pregnant.
There was an eminent professor on the news last week regarding hypothyroid in Mothers and the IQ in babies.
What was that on please if you are UK. Hny
I had recorded the France 24 International News on the 28th December. It was Barbara Demeneix taking. She did explain that new born babies are tested at birth for low thyroid hormone now. If the hormone is required it is given immediately.
Thanks. Interesting x
I am in France and I think that the news was on the version of French News but in English on 206 station. I may have recorded it because it was interesting and I was going out I will go and see. I may be able to get the Professors name? She was taking about the endocrine system and how it effects newborns delivered by mothers without the correct medication for hypothyroidism. She started a direct link to low IQ. sometimes extremely low.
