ewilma26,

A cold should resolve in a couple of weeks. You may have an infection if it has lasted for months. See your GP.

I did they said it was just a virus

eWilma26,

It can take 2-3 months for a virus to clear. If it has lasted beyond that you should go back and see your GP.

I was just wondering if it wasn’t because my immune system was down since I’m newly diagnosed with hypo

Do you have Thyroid anti-bodies - TPO & Tg - aka Hashimotos ?

How are your VitD levels - also B12 - folate - Ferritin - VitD ?

I’m not sure on the antibodies but all vitamin levels are good

Was it your GP who said your vitamins and mineral levels were good ? If so you need to obtain copies of the results and ranges and post them here. For example your B12 needs to be over 500 - VitD around 100 - folate and Ferritn mid-range - for you to feel well and for your thyroid hormones to work well in the body.

Not being bossy - have been around this forum for many years and know that people can only help when we have the full story with results and ranges. Otherwise we are shooting in the dark :-)

Having anti-bodies indicates you have Hashimotos - which is auto-immune - and the reason I am asking questions. People here with Hashimotos often report taking a long time to recover from infections. So it is VERY important to know if you have been tested ....

Sorry please can you link your post with results. There are 20 posts of yours and I have tried to read through some of them and cannot see any results for vitamins. Perhaps complete your Bio to save having to repeat yourself !

I read that you have a LOW T3 level - well that in itself will lower your ability to resist infections. Also your VitD level needs to be around 60 as I notice you are in the US.

VitD is a steroidal prohormone that is also anti-inflammatory .... so more than a vitamin. You can read my post about VitD from earlier today - good response from members and more information for you :-)

ewilma26 ,

I also couldn't find your vit levels. I agree with Marz that they are very important. I'm really curious what your vit D3 level is like. I had 12 chest infections during one autumn-winter period...(!!!) until I discovered that I had severe vit D3 deficiency. Most of us hypos are vit D3 deficient and it could the reason why you cannot shake off this cold. Thyroid meds won't work if vit D3 is very low. If your GP is refusing to test your D you could do it through private testing.

Maybe add vitamin C in powder form when you have lunch.

I have to be very careful to avoid infections as I have a lung disease and what could be a sniffle for someone else could put me in hospital. So I normally take immune support but if ever I get a hint of anything I immediately increase my Vit C - I normally take two separate doses of Vit C powder, at least 1000mg each, so I increase that to 3 x daily and heap up the spoon as well.

I also take 1 teaspoonful of garlic liquid daily (Allimed) so I increase that to 2 (separate doses) and if I do have an infection I increase to 3.

I also find Oil of Oregano helps when I have an infection, I use the capsule form and send for mine from the producer in Greece. Oil of Oregano is:

Antibacterial

Antiviral

Antifungal

Antioxidant

Digestive

Anti-Allergenic

Anti-Parasitic

Anti-Inflammatory
