Hyperthyroidism & coughing

For the past few days I have had a cough, no sore throat but an irritating cough which is keeping me awake during the night.

When does a cough warrant a visit the Drs? If I did not have an overactive thyroid, I would not bother the GP.

I think you should contact your GP in case you need a white blood cell count blood test as you are taking Carbimazole.

Yes that’s what I was thinking but feel such a drain on the surgery, probably just a winter cough and don’t like wasting their time. Will ring to be on the safe side.

Maybe it is just a cough but its not worth the risk of developing an infection due to Carbimazole suppressing white cell count so see what your GP says.

Worth seeing what your doctor says. Especially as it’s coming up for the weekend then the Christmas / New Year break. It doesn’t take long to do a quick blood test to put everyone’s minds at rest. You could have it done and dusted by Friday.

You aren’t by any chance taking lisinopril for high blood pressure are you? Some people get the well known ‘lisinopril cough’ when they take that.

Going to book an appointment today so hopefully bloods will be done. Don’t feel so great this morning so best get it checked as you said before the Christmas break.

Not taking any other medication apart from 20mg of Carbimazole.
