Hello, I have Hashimotos with high antithyroid antibodies and have been gluten free for 18 months. I do feel a lot better for it, no more brain fog and other unpleasant symptoms. Today I had gravy with gluten by mistake (wrong jug) and didn't notice until afterwards. Annoyed as have worked so hard on my recovery and have been starting to feel better.
I read that once you have been "glutened" it can take months to leave your body. Is this true? Will this increase my tpo antibodies? Is there anything I can do? Thanks a lot in advance.

Gluten can irritate the gut villii for up to six months. The only way to know whether antibodies increase or not is to have them measured. NHS won't usually repeat TPOab so if you want it done you'll have to order private thyroid tests. I don't think there's anything you can do having eaten gluten. Did you have any discomfort after eating it?
Did you have any reactions? Don't beat yourself up. If it is just this incident/accident, I wouldn't worry much about it especially that you have been totally gluten-free for 18 months. The villi will have bounced back and will not be very much affected.
Thanks so much for replies, tiredness and extreme nausea seemed to be the order of the day. Can't believe I used to put myself through this! Am off to order some TPOAb tests anyway as am going down the functional medicine route. So will see!
