Is this a common symptom of hypothyroid??

Hi everyone,

So to cut straight to the point my last blood test showed I was within range after 6 weeks of being on Levo. However I still felt like I could do with a little extra, so the doc advised to go to 75mg, after about 4 weeks on the higher dose I started to feel restless and a bit hyper/anxious/eating more/sleeping less, so I reduced back down to 50mg, but now I feel crap again, I have a constant sore, tight throat, my face is throbbing I feel like I have a tight band around my head, not sure wether these symptoms are making me anxious or if the anxiety is all part of it...does anyone else suffer these symptoms?? Basically I can only describe it as being hit by a bus 😩

Henson1980,

It's hard to advise whether or not you were overmedicated on 75mcg without seeing your thyroid results on 50mcg.

If 75mcg felt too much and 50mcg too little, try 50mcg/75mcg alternate days.

I think Clutter may have the answer of alternating. I've been having the same symptoms as you. I'm currently on 50mg and have been for some time and was feeling much better after a while I guess as my body got used to it? I was advised to go to 75mg and I was feeling the same as you, so I've dropped back. It makes you feel 'wiped out'. I wonder if anxiety may be a part of it for me, or whether it's getting used to the dose. You're not alone

It’s rubbish isn’t it? I feel like I have a constant cold and sore throat coming! Maybe alternating the dose is the way to go, I have another blood test in a weeks time I will wait and see what the outcome of that is first...hope you find the correct dose soon x

It is rubbish. It took me maybe a month to get used to the 50mg and in the meantime I was feeling as rough as could be. Total fatigue, cold etc you name it. Now I'm starting to get those 'it's not working as well as it was' feeling and when I moved to 75mg I felt rubbish again. I was wondering if the weather was making me get the 'cold, sore throat feeling as well, but I feel like I'm having difficulties swallowing? I'm just within range now, and haven't had a test for maybe 2 months. My GP said that as it had gone down she was considering withdrawing the Levo altogether. That's the reason I haven't pushed 75mg or asked too much. I am hoping to just keep saying "repeat prescription please". I now take in the evening. 2 hrs after food and drink as in the morning I would take it and feel shattered. Don't get me wrong, if doesn't make me sleep in the evening as I'd hoped it would. Think I will alternate 50mg and 75mg as well. Best wishes x

I would be surprised if your doc stopped your meds, unless you was taking too much but that’s clearly not the case. You should get re-tested just to put your mind at ease, nothing worse than feeling like this every day! X

I was originally put on Levo by my ivf clinic - they stopped my treatment/ FET transfer. The GP refused to prescribe anything back then so my ivf clinic did. My locum has said 'it's gone down, are you pregnant then?'. She pretty much said if I got pregnant I would have to stay on them, but if it didn't happen by the New Year she would poss take me off them as they were costing too much money. You don't know how much Levo costs the NHS do you? I don't pay for those prescriptions now to be honest. I use to.

I wouldn’t have a clue, but regardless of cost if you need them you need them...I’m beginning to wonder if I will ever find the right dose xx

Me too. It's so hard and I am trying to 'experiment taking suppliments 'vit D tablets and B tablets etc' to see if it makes a difference - nothing yet. Hope you find the magic formula soon x

I take 200mg selenium which did seem to help...not sure wether it’s stopped working or it’s because I reduced my meds downs to 50mg. It’s all trial and error to guess. ☺️

Oo thanks. I'll try and get some. I started eating 2 brazil nuts a day, but then I just forgot odd days and stopped. It's difficult to know whether it's down to the meds, the suppliments, diet or anything else.
