What happens if you stop taking levothyroxine?

I had RAI treatment on 2016

September 2017 endocrinologist said your normal and signed me off

6 weeks later my gp re tests and it’s all too high. Doc dropped me down to 150mcg and my system has gone to sleep

Seems I only function well on a high dose

Any views grateful received

Thank you

If you put blood test results on here. Some of the others would be able to explain it more for you.

If you had a complaint Thyroid remove. Don’t stop Levothyroxine. The only time you stop taken Levothyroxine is when you go for a scan. Unless it’s changed now.

What happens? All sorts of horrible things, symptoms getting worse and worse, weight-gain, organs shutting down, brain becoming more and more confused, depressed, and eventually, coma and death. Really not advisable, you cannot live without thyroid hormone.

But, I don't understand why you're asking this question if you know you only function well on a high dose.

You're welcome. :)

Well, in the days before thyroid meds were discovered, people with hypothyroidism just died - gradually - usually after going mad (dementia) and getting heart and kidney problems.

Or put into the nut 🏠😥
