General Practitioner CPD.

This has probably been thought of but it would be useful if the excellent materials produced by Thyroid UK could be developed to form a CPD module for GPs. If it was free for GPS even better.

Mrneduc,

I doubt Thyroid UK has the funds or staff resources to produce training modules for GPs. GPs are free to access the Thyroid UK site and forum if they wish.

Ok it was just an idea. I don’t want to be slammed down for a tentative idea. Lipodema Uk has done this for their constituents but I’m not sure how they got funding. It’s been a good way of getting GPs who have no idea about lipodema to recognize and understand the condition. I have just worked with my GP to get them to realize that on Levo treatment under or around TSH of 1 is safe and that mid reference range is not optimal. They simply don’t know.

Mrneduc,

Nobody slammed you down.

Feel free to contact louise.roberts@thyroiduk.org if you wish to discuss it further.

Ideas are good. It is the Endocrinologists who need training as we've often read or heard (when they have had Conferences) the opposite to which we patients find is the correct way to be diagnosed/treated.

One doctor - Dr Skinner (RIP\) a Virologist tried his utmost to communicate with Endocrinologists. Dr S was getting all the waifs and strays from hypo because they were either undiagnosed/untreated/undertreated.

He invited every single Endocrinologist to a Conference to discuss the Parlous State of Affairs of patients remaining undiagnosed according to blood tests alone, with no regard given to clinical symptoms or being given doses which were too low and the suffering continued.

One by one all Endocrinologist refused as they didn't want to know and for Doctor Skinner - a wonderful, sympathetic, straightforward speaking doctor was then pursued by those who resented him which resulted in his appearing before the GMC for treating against the guidelines.

However he was always found to be treating patients well. What other doctor in the UK would have more than 10,000 testimonials from grateful patients whom he diagnosed/treated. One was the following whose life was saved by Thyroiduk.org.uk and Dr Skinner through prescribing NDT. One of Dr Skinner's Admirers did a calculation of his appearances and it was about 4 million to 1.

I assume Endocrinology is equivalent to a Union and they don't want their power thwarted particularly if doctors don't follow their guidelines even if patients are suffering. Another doctor pursued was Dr Barry Durrant-Peatfield who resigned due to the enormous pressure rather than being struck off but is still able to 'advise' patients. Dr Barry also studied in the USA a more holistic way.

Check out Dr Rangan Chattergee - he is doing Lifestyle module training for GP's. With a little persuasion I am sure he would cover the thyroid 😆

Will see what’s on line re Dr Chatergee. Having a knee replacement soon so once the pain dies down might have time to look into it.

I've been following Dr Rangan Chatterjee but he seems to circle around hypothyroidism.

Hence my comment he may need persuading 😊 He still works in the NHS so is possibly still falling into line.

Really and truly, Dr Chatterjee needs to make his mind up ..... NHS or Functional Medicine if he can't do it properly

P S I have in the past tried to find how to contact him, particularly when we were having the big push to get the message out when T3 was about to be de-prescribed and the Petition started. But was unable to find a way of making contact. I don't use Facebook.

I too tried after his programme where the lady was using Levo but it was not mentioned in the programme. A missed opportunity ...

He is a GP in Oldham with a weekly private clinic in Manchester. Beyond that I haven’t a clue about how to contact him

He can be contacted via his agent Sophie Laurimore at Factual Management – Tel: 020 7484 5133

I think this is a great idea, though I don't know how Thyroid UK could spare the time or money. Pulse magazine is for GPs. I get a link to it every week or so (I must have clicked on something while researching T3 etc!) They have CPD modules on there all the time. Some I can't access (the hard ones), and some I can as they're more like quizzes. Maybe there's a way to suggest Pulse uses Thyroid UK for information/quiz type CPD?
