Beta blockers, palpitations

I take 12.5 mg metroprolol in that morning and 1w.5 in the evening. Also in the morning I take eutirox (levothyroxine) at the moment 25ug I am due to increase in the morning at 25+ 12.5. I haven't had palpitations in a month. This evening very bad palpitations, cold chills and choking sensation. I can't sleep my heart rate is 85-95 and I keep falling asleep for seconds then my body wakes up. I took another quoter of beta blocker so 6(25:4) just so that I can calm my heart and be able to sleep. Did I do right? Is it OK to increase my dose of levo in the morning if I had the palpitations?

Suzanam,

If you've been advised to increase Levothyroxine dose it is likely the palpitations have been caused by overmedication, so yes, do increase dose as you were advised. I think you've probably done the right thing by taking extra beta blocker to help you sleep.

Can you post your recent Thyroid test results and also vitamin D, Folate, ferritin and B12 results and ranges if you have them

You are on very very small dose of Levothyroxine. Palpitations can be due to being under medicated

How long have you been on 25mcg? Have you had bloods retested

Do you know if you have high thyroid antibodies? Have these been tested

I only have the initial blood tests the ones before the medication. I am due to get blood tests when I reach 62.5 cmg. I was in 25 for 10 days and I will be on 25+12.5 for another 10 days then in 50cmg for 10 days and only then on 62.5. And after I've been for a week on 62.5 for 10 days I am having a blood test. No palpitations at the moment but I feel exhausted.

You can post your results from before starting on Levo.

Plus vitamin test results if you have them. If not been tested yet, see GP and ask that they are tested. Plus thyroid antibodies

Or you can test privately

Medichecks Thyroid plus ultra vitamin or Blue Horizon Thyroid plus eleven are the most popular choice. DIY finger prick test or option to pay extra for private blood draw. Both companies often have money off offers.

All thyroid tests should be done as early as possible in morning and fasting and don't take Levo in the 24 hours prior to test, delay and take straight after. This gives highest TSH and most consistent results
