"Provisional" blood test status?

Hi,

I am writing here as a last resort from trying to find out what on earth this means. I even scoured though ICE system user manuals and guides. I recently had some blood tests done; bone profile following vit D supplements to treat a deficiency, prolactin and free T4.

I am registered with the GP services online so have been regularly checking for my results. I had an appointment booked a week after my blood was drawn to discuss results and further action. The problem is only half of the results have appeared online (bone profile).

These were uploaded about six days afterwards. I called the practice in Monday to enquire about where the missing results were. I know free T4 and prolactin are rarer tests that may take longer, but I have been very concerned that they just won't get done as it has taken a long time to get them to test my T4.

The receptionist told me that she checked ICE and the tests were definitely ordered/sample collected, but it says "provisional". She didn't really seem to know what this meant but assured me they would be done...

I'm thinking that maybe it means they won't be shown until a Gp has had time to view and comment on them? In which case wouldn't she have just said, we've got them but I can't answer ATM etc.

This is so frustrating. It's been two weeks and I've had to postpone my appointment and at this point I'm starting to worry that they still won't be available in time for the new one, if at all!

Thank you :)

Novaka,

FT4 results are with my practice by 6.30am the morning after the blood draw. I suggest somebody from your practice calls the lab to ask what 'provisional' means and whether the outstanding bloods have been tested and, if so, what the results are.

Please, when you use an acronism, in this case ICE, please tell us what it means first. e.g. International Business Machines (IBM).

So.... what is ICE?
