I was diagnosed in May with an overactive thyroid and now taking 10mg (prev 20mg) of carbimizole. Most of the symptoms are settling (never had any weight loss). However, I feel so tired and stressed and very negative with excessive hairloss and unable to lose a pound when dieting that I looked into Cortisol. I'm seeing my consultant mid December and decided to wait to discuss it with him rather than my GP. My GP only wanted to prescribe an anti depressant when I described my symptoms recently. (I did the test using medichecks after that visit). Any advice when talking with the consultant? Or anything in general from people who have this issue? The hair loss is the final straw as I have always had fine hair but have been taking the contraceptive pill Dianette for this for the last 2 years that has definately made a difference but then for it all to be lost in the space of a month is very upsetting and adding to feeling so stressed.

You should ask the endo to test you for Cushing's Syndrome and Cushing's Disease since your morning cortisol is so high. (I can never remember the difference between the two.)

patient.info/doctor/cushing...

A very useful document for anyone having investigations done by an endocrinologist is this one :

imperialendo.co.uk/Bible201...

Search the document for any reference to "Cushing" and you should find every possible test that hospitals ever do for the condition, plus any other test which might be affected by having Cushing's in some form.

If you are tested and told that you don't have Cushing's, and then are left to your own devices, then I would suggest that you go for the self-help route to get your cortisol levels down.

If you get to that stage, write a post on here asking for help on how to deal with high cortisol without doctors. Changing cortisol levels (low or high) is not that easy, but with a lot of trial and error and patience people may succeed.
