To save members having to search through your other threads, it would be very helpful if you posted your current FT4 and FT3 test results done at the same time then they can advise how to introduce T3 and whether your dose of Levo needs adjusting (mention what Levo you are taking).
Sorry Susie, was being lazy there! My most recent were around September so could do with a new test (will get done this week) i’m on 300mg of levo a day, supplementing with vit d, folic acid, selenium, zinc, vit c, iron. I’ll post my results, 2 ticks
Lucy, there isn't anything in those results that help. So if you're doing new thyroid tests this week make sure FT3 is also included as well as FT4, then post the new results and we can go from there.
Before starting any medication or vitamins or mineral supplements get blood tests as a baseline and to see if you should be supplementing at all. If your results show that your FT3 (or TT3 for that matter) is pushing the upper limit then you should not be taking more.
HOWEVER... if you need to supplement with T3 the advice is to "Start low and go slow!" but do have your blood tested first. If you are taking 300mcg of Levo AND you are a good converter (which you don't know yet) you do not need extra T3. But post your results as soon as they come in then we can give our opinions. BTW, 300mcg Levo is a whopping big dose, maybe something else is going on.
Hi
300 is a healthy dose but not unusual- GPs tend to restrict levels now. However the advise is good- you need to look at a full blood count ( including vitamins) and review your levels as you may be converting well.
Otherwise you could reduce the thyroxine ( results depending and add in t3 slow and steady) or consider ndt. The others advise is sound. Test first as a guide then go on how you feel.
Also if people have poor absorbtion they usually need higher levels or vitamins can be low.
Best wishes
