If you've still got symptoms I would get your vitamin levels tested as your results above look ok as far as they go. As you've got no FT3 result it's not the whole picture but if in the UK, most docs won't do FT3 along with the tests. Do you have thyroid antibodies?

Tests for vitamins should include:

Vitamin B12

folate

ferritin

Vitamin D

Sorry Free T3 result is 3.5 (3.1 - 6.8)

TPO antibodies 275 (<34)

TG antibodies 255.3 (<115)

Is it not a good idea to reintroduce T3? I felt better on this.

Your FT3 level is low but if you have low vitamin levels it might cause low FT3 readings so you need to check them before your reintroduce T3. If your vitamin levels are low, your body won't adjust well to the addition of T3.

FERRITIN 22 (30 - 400)

FOLATE 4.1 (4.6 - 18.7)

VITAMIN B12 145 (180 - 900)

VITAMIN D TOTAL 26.5 (25 - 50 DEFICIENCY. SUPPLEMENTATION IS INDICATED)

Well, as you can see, everything is below range and your results are dire. What has your GP said about these and what supplements have you been offered?

Thanks I take folic acid 5mg and 210mg ferrous fumarate once a day for iron anaemia

Well, as you can see from these results it's not the correct treatment as your results are still dire.

You shouldn't take folic acid supplements if you have B12 deficiency as it can mask the problem. Your B12 is below range, you really must get advice by posting your vitamin levels results on the Pernicious Anaemia forum. Make sure you give your B12 and folate levels and the supplements you're taking and ask for their advice.

Check here for symptoms of vitamin B12 deficiency

Please check out SeasideSusie vitamins advice to other people this evening. Similar advice recommended for you.

I'll just find the link.

You need to make an on the day appointment with your GP.

For vitamin D - point out it is winter therefore will not be making any vitamin D from sunlight. State that this means you will end up with severe vitamin D deficiency as you are borderline severe deficient. Then ask for a loading dose of vitamin D3 in accordance with the local guidelines.

Make sure you read the prescription before leaving the room. If you are prescribed 800iu per day tell the GP that is not a loading dose for those with severe deficiency and can they please check the local vitamin D guidelines to prescribe the correct amount. If the GP absolutely refuses or insists it is plus makes stupid comments like you can make the rest up from food, then come back here and start a new thread so you can be told how to self supplement vitamin D3.

For ferritin - you need a full blood count and iron panel to rule out iron deficiency anaemia. Ask for the tests and say is it possible to check with a specialist why my levels haven't gone up on the treatment you have prescribed? If the GP demands what specialist say an endocrinologist or haemotology. In my opinion your GP has under prescribed you iron tablets as s/he is unaware how low iron levels can lead to a medical emergency and should have talked to someone else on what to do long ago.

For vitamin B12/folate - go to the pernicious anaemia Society on health unlocked and post there asap.

To help yourself - go gluten free avoiding gluten free processed foods. Take 200mcg of selenium per day.

Once you have seen the doctor post a new thread with what has happened for further advice.

Please tell me they started giving you iron and folate to suppliment after these results.

Additionally you need b12 injections every other day for 2 weeks or longer depending on if you have neurological symptoms, starting immediately.

Pop over and post these results on the pernecious anemia (b12 anemia) site and they will help you with how to get your doctor motivated to treat you before possible permanent damage is done.

Your doctor must have seen the low b12 since he/she offered up folate and iron. Why they wouldnt have given you an injection immediately is BEYOND comprehension!!!!

Your thyroid doesnt work properly without adequent b12 and iron.

Therefore once b12 and iron deficiencies are treated it is important you monitor your thyroid levels very closely as you could go from hypo and needing meds to your thyroid starting to function on its own and therefore being oveemedicated, which will give you a bad roller coaster ride.

Wishing you the best of luck
