Tsh, Hashi's flare?

Hi everyone,

I had my gp appointment a couple of weeks ago to discuss increase in levo which he had been reluctant to agree to at previous appt and asked for bloods to be done. Of course with this result he said he wanted to reduce it... Though I managed to avoid that any discussion re the TSH and it not being a reliable indicator of anything frankly was shut down. Didn't even get the chance to say that my TSH has ever been this low and what the reason for that might be.

Is it fair to consider it may have been a Hashi's flare? I've another appt next Tuesday which I want to be more useful than the last two have been. I know there is only so much that can be gleaned from this info but my surgery does not test for anything else.

Rubycubes,

What's the problem with TSH 0.30? It is within range and FT4 17 is mid-range so you aren't over medicated. There's no reason to adjust dose. Read Treatment Options in thyroiduk.org.uk/tuk/about_... Email louise.roberts@thyroiduk.org if you would like a copy of the Pulse article to show your GP.

A Hashi flare causing high FT4 or FT3 will usually only happen in the early days of developing Hashimoto's.

Hi Clutter,

As far as gp was concerned the TSH had gone very low and therefore he should be reducing levo..

It's the lowest result I've ever had though, usually around 2.7 so was wondering what might have caused it?

Rubycubes,

As I said, TSH 0.30 is within range so it is not too low. Show your GP the Pulse article.

TSH rises when T4 is low to stimulate the thyroid to produce more T4. When sufficient T4 is circulating the TSH will drop. The dose increase will have raised FT4 and reduced TSH.
