Underactive thyroid

I've been told my blood tests have came back normal but I've got to have my bloods taken again 3 months time as thyroid is showing high borderline. Should i be worried as a year and half ago i had issues with thyroid and started to lose my hair. Can anyone give me some advice

It's normal to repeat the test 3 months after a borderline result in a non-diagnosed patient. This is because a non-thyroidal illness can raise TSH and they want to double check.

What issues did you have with your thyroid a year and a half ago? Any test results from that time? Any medication given?

Have you had any vitamins and minerals tested - Vit D, B12, Folate, Ferritin? Low ferritin can be a cause of hairloss, as can low zinc, and others, as well as hypothyroidism.

Every blood test i had been having the bloods were normal then year and half ago i started to lose my hair so i contacted the doctors ended having loads of blood test increased my medication twice and from 2013 to 2016 my thyroid was not right but doctors never bothered to tell me until the doctor i was dealing with a year and half ago. After increasing my medication she stated last year everything is OK continue to take medication and come back in a year for your annual review which i did and found out that i need another blood test in 3 months

Oh, so are you diagnosed hypothyroid and on Levo? You haven't mentioned that.

In that case can you post some test results, as many as you've got, include the reference ranges, state what dose you were on at the time of the test, and what changes were made.

Also we need your latest test results and dose of Levo, let's see why she wants to retest in 3 months. If you're out of range and on Levo, she can't just say you're borderline, she needs to raise your dose.

'Normal' doesn't mean anything. It just means that your result is somewhere within the range (and sometimes outside the range, depending on the doctor and whether they are stupid). It's where in the range the results lie that is important so we need to see all this.

If you don't have your results then ask at the surgery and get as many as you can. In the UK we are legally entitled to our test results under the Data Protection Act so if there's a problem with you being told you can't have them, just reply that that you're sure they wouldn't want to break the law. And you don't have to give a reason for wanting them.
