Hi I was put on Levothyroxin 25mcg last yr and I have not felt any better. I went in for a checkup and my dr checked thyroid cuz I said I was so tired all the time, dry, cold skin, etc. I've now gained weight and find myself more tired and skin still dry... My pharmacist said I might ask my dr to put me on a more natural med like Armour or Natur-throid. Any advice? I am new to all this and feeling lost... don't want to gain more weight or lose more hair...I'm almost 61... thanks.

You should have had retest 6-8 weeks after starting on 25mcg (which is tiny starter dose)

With increase in dose by 25mcg, retesting again etc until TSH is around one and FT4 towards top of range

Post your most recent results including ranges

It sounds like your GP had been negligent to leave you on starter dose for a year

You are entitled to copies of your blood tests

See a different GP and explain, ask for vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12 to be tested and also thyroid antibodies to establish if cause is autoimmune thyroid disease also called Hashimoto's (90% is Hashimoto's)
