Ptu : Sorry about the annoying posts but is only... - Thyroid UK
Ptu
Sorry, no. I had no unwanted side effects on ptu. Perhaps, you should see your gp if it continues.
Tanya22820,
Unfortunately "really ropey", whilst very understandable at the human chat level, doesn't give enough detail.
The Patient Information Leaflet for PTU in the UK gives a list of things that could be serious. I urge you to read the list and consider whether it applies to you. If so, do as it suggests and get yourself to a doctor - Accident and Emergency if necessary.
4. POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS
Like many medicines Propylthiouracil Tablets may cause side effects in
some patients, although not everybody gets them.
You should contact your doctor immediately if you develop any of the
following side effects affecting your blood or liver, or if you think you have
any type of infection:
Symptoms of a serious problem affecting your blood:
• sore throat
• fever
• mouth ulcers
• unusual bleeding or unexplained bruising
• unusual tiredness or weakness
• feeling generally unwell.
Your doctor should check your blood if you develop an infection or if you
are about to undergo surgery. You may need to stop your tablets if you
have any blood problems.
Symptoms of hepatitis (inflammation of your liver), liver failure or
other forms of liver damage (some of which can cause death):
• loss of appetite
• itching
• pain on the right side of your stomach
• jaundice (yellowing of the skin and whites of the eyes)
• a brain disease, which may affect your ability to think
You should contact your doctor immediately if you develop any of the
above side effects
You should also contact your doctor immediately if you develop an
allergic reaction, the symptoms of which are as follows:
Symptoms of an allergic reaction:
• difficulty in breathing
• cough
• swelling of your lymph glands (glands situated around the body which
protect against the spread of infection)
• arthritis (painful joints)
• pain in the loins (lower back) or other symptoms of kidney problems
• inflammation of your blood vessels (of the skin)
• a rash across the bridge of your nose and across your cheeks

I just feel dizzy almost as if my head ain't mine it's only my 2nd day of taking 100mg I wonder if I need to slowly put it in my system by just taking 50mg 😞
Could be regarded as coming under:
• feeling generally unwell.
I am not pushing you out of the door to A&E, but don't keep leaving it and putting it off if you are getting worse.
I am not medically trained, so I feel a strong responsibility to make sure you are aware and encourage you to act, if needed. Quite simply, I cannot reassure you that you are and will be OK.
