Women- thyroid and periods

Hello,

Sorry if this is too much information but for the last year when my stomach pain started I started getting lighter periods with brown at the start end of my period with one only lasting about two days. I should say this started in Oct 2016 and I have just last month been diagnosed as hypothyroid which I have suspected for about five years. I am on the contraceptive pill and have been since 2006 roughly.

My Doctors know my symptoms and say it’s fine and I have had tests, bloods and scans of ovaries etc all coming back fine.

So does anyone else have this, it’s made me feel really uneasy with the browness and just completely thinking it’s just not normal.

Sorry if that is TMI.

Hello there to much info is good. Like you before being diagnosed with my thyroid problem i too had menstrual problems and last year spent months and months going through investagations and nothing!! I was told briwn discharge is very often due to old blood, especially if your periods have become lighter but having said that mine are quite heavy, im no medical expert but if you have had all tests i would not worry, if always said if it was something to worry over you would have known by now. I have my smear booked for thus monday so i will look forward to that. Dont worry .you are ok.xx

I actually have a smear test booked in two weeks as well and had a swab a few months ago as part of the investigations. I literally just get brown for about three hours then a day of red normal blood then a combination of lighter brown and red second Day. The third day is mostly very light hardly there brown. I am wondering if I have endometriosis, my Mum and aunt had it but Mum had it heavy. I started nature thyroid one week ago due to being borderline hypothyroid for the past 5 years and finally being diagnosed by a private doctor two weeks ago and finally starting the nature thyroid meds! Only been on them a week but hoping things will improve over time. Any help / advice would be great!

Hi there again i think it will settle and i think itvdepends on your age as well, ive been through what you are going through abd still do but i dont wirry as ive been through all investigations like you. Im 47 and perimenapausal so my body as been going through alot of changes. Cant advice on being hypo as i am originally hyper and now hasimotos with a strong possibility of graves aswell but waiting for bloods. You have a smear booked liked me so that will detect any obnormalities but you are ok.xx😊

I’m 27! It’s only been the last year that this has started! I’ve just always been borderline. Been on nature thyroid for a month nearly now so I’m hoping to start seeing improvements!

Being on the right amount of medication often settles such problems

Bit of an update, i have now been taking Nature Throid for nearly four months now and i would like to hope I’m seeing improvements now. Periods are still similar, last month though i didn’t have any/very little brown, just had a bit at end of day one this month though!

It’s the periods that i am now concerned about as it is still varied and the pain seems to have gone from my stomach! On my last set of thyroid tests i got the following results....

06.12.16

TSH: 2.27

FT4: 12

18.9.2017

TSH: 4.42

FT4:13.4

FT3: 4.5

14.12.2017

TSH: 2.78

FT4: 12.5

FT3: 4.9
