Hi,i have been diagnosed with Hashimoto today but my main worry is my vision problems,double vision,blurey vision sometimes worse at different times of day ,i cant drive and i wonder if anybody can advise on if this will recede once thyroid meds are correct.thanks

Hashimoto's is an Autoimmune Thyroid Disease called Hashimoto's and it is due to the antibodies which attack your thyroid gland until you become hypothyroid, but treatment is the same.
Those who have had similar eye symptoms to you will respond as it must be quite disabling to have eye problems too.
Has your doctor referred you to a specialist for Thyroid Eye Disease for reassurance.
Going gluten-free can help reduce the antibodies which attack your thyroid gland and they do wax and wane and sometimes you will feel hyper.
Blood tests have to always be at the earliest, fasting (you can drink water) and allow a gap of 24 hours between lasgt dose and the test and take afterwards. This helps keep the TSH at its highest.
Always get a print-out of your results with the ranges and post if you have a query.
Thankyou for your reply yes waiting to see an eye specialist ,my main gripe is not being able to drive its playing havoc with my life and everything i have to do each day,just hate being so reliant upon others.
Doublevision I don't know anything about eye problems and thyroid, but have you seen an optician or your GP about this and maybe get a referral to an eye speciaslist? I think that would be a wise step to take, either tomorrow or early next week.
Hi, are you getting other symptoms regarding your eyes. I've recently been diagnosed with TED (Thyroid Eye Disease) and experience double vision, blurring, fading, Ptosis and pain behind my eyes. With all of this I'm diagnosed with TPO which my endocrinologist has completely ignored but get joint pain with every other symptom that go with it. You should request and MRI. I was seen by the opthalmologist for approximately 5 years before the endocrinologist diagnosed me. Good Luck!
Thanks for answering me,i have blurry vision and double vision that fluctuates through the day ,i cant drive and i hate relying on others to get around no pain but dry eye and gets sore in the corners,im waiting to see the opthaloligist and praying something can be done so i i can get back to some kind of normal.good luck to you too hon x
Doublevision As you already have advice around your eye problems and hypothyroidism, as it is Hashimoto's, have you been assessed for Sjogren's Syndrome as an additional autoimmune condition (tends to be dry mouth and dry eyes with additional vision problems)?
No not as yet but i have since discovered condition and other Autoimmune conditions in my family so am going to look at that next.
Hi thanks for replying to me i have been diagnosed with Hashimotos but am still waiting to see someone about the eyes so not sure yet whats causing it although it has presented at the same time so seems likely to be connected,i have not heard of Sjogrens syndrome so i will have a look at that now thanks for the suggestion and kind regards.

I started with this too earlier this year. Its gotten worse. I put in eye drops and use a humidifier at night for the bedroom. Still if I dont put eye drops in through the night it rips the top skin of my eyes off and very sore. I was first seen by a Consultant 20 yrs ago who put paper in my eyes snd said they were the dryest they had ever recorded but the non allergy drops were terrible. Now I have double vision (one above the other). I saw a Consultant at Eye hospital this year for 3 mins who doubled my eyedrops and wrote to my GP saying I have ‘slightly dry eyes’. She did areange for me to have a presription to correct it. My job involves driving too. Have yours gone right? What happened please?

My Eyes still give me trouble i use drops for dry eye and this gives me some relief but still get double vision at times with no apparent reason they can find,Glasses did not help either.
No glasses to correct havent helped me either. Just seen a Sjogrens specialist whos prescribed me eye drops and medication so we’ll see now x
