Do I need further testing?

Hi all, onedge here,

I have fibromyalgia and a number of other syndromes and had my blood taken the other day.

My results for TSH were off the scale at the top of the range and my T4 was just on 12 at the bottom of the scale.

I have always had problems and can tick the boxes for hypothyroidism but what do you recommend me do now I have proof in my blood results

Onedge,

What was your TSH result and range?

Hi Clutter thanks for responding. My result was 4.41 in April and 4.3 in August ,this year, for serum TSH range 0.27-4.20 ml/ U/L

And 12 for both tests for serum T4 with a range 12-22 pmol/L

12

Onedge,

I would show your GP the results and request Levothyroxine. NHS will usually diagnose hypothyroidism on the second abnormal TSH result and your FT4 is bottom of range.

Hi Clutter

I wrote to you a few months ago with my latest thyroid results and u told me that on my TSH levels alone that I should be having treatment with Levo . I spoke to my rheumatologist who said that I am too anxious to take Levo and then I saw a London Rheumatologist ( who I was seeing for a fibromyalgia review (really useless) and she dismissed my results outright

Now I have been asked to have a blood test for folate and vit D and I asked if I could have my TSH and T4 levels checked and I list the results for you below. My question is what am I do do? I have all the classic signs of hypothyroidism together with a squeaky voice. My sister has hypothyroidism.

My results Are TSH 4.65 (0.27-4.20)

T4 11 (12-22)

I await your reply

Many thanks onedge

Onedge,

TSH is over range and T4 is below range which means you have overt primary hypothyroidism. I suggest you speak to your GP and show him/her the results and your August results too and request Levothyroxine.

What are your folate and vitD results?

Hi Clutter

Thanks for getting back so soon

My results for folate is 20 ( 3.90-26.8)

My result for vit d is 116 ( 50-200)

My folate was 1.7 in October and I was put on 5 mg a day but I have rarely taken it as I felt ill with it. I took it a few days before blood test though . 5mg once a day

My vey vit d is strange though as I have been taking two vit d capsules a day for 5 years so that should be off the upper range of the scale surely?

Can you interprete these results as I'm very confused

Thanks

Clutter will not have seen your reply as you replied to yourself 😊😊 It is easy to forget to click the Green Reply button.

Vit D is fine - how much in each capsule ? Maybe take one. Are you taking Magnesium and Vit K2-MK7 too ?

No B12 or Ferritin result ... they are important and likely to be low.

Onedge,

As you hadn't been taking folic acid regularly it's impossible to tell whether folate is good at 20 because you had taken a couple of tablets just before your blood test or if folate had improved.

VitD 116 is good. You could continue supplementing one capsule a day to maintain level.

Hi Clutter

So sorry to keep nagging but I've now got a new doctor who I was chatting on the phone as I needed some lorazepam to help me with my nervousness and restlessness. As he was on the phone I asked him to look at my last three blood tests and he responded straight away by saying ' why haven't u been put on Levo thyroxine? U r hypothyroid ' next day 50 mg tablets arrived for me.

I said I wanted a blood test first to get a marker of my bloods b4 starting treatment . I went to see him on Friday and he said my testosterone was too low and I needed treatment for that first. My anxiety is probably linked to this being deficient

I am at a loss as I have stopped the folate and my vit d two weeks before the test and shock results are as follows

TSH went back into range at 3.77

T4 went back into range to 16

Can vit d withdrawal mess with results that were consistently both out of range?

I was also tested at 12.20 and might have ate in the early hours too.

Basically

I've had low oestrogen

Vit d, haemaglobin, white blood count, platelets, lymphocytes, t 4, haemocrit, bilirubin, alanase transaminase, gamma GT and now testosterone

At the same time

With high

TSH, albumin, sodium, creatinine, cholesterol

Are u able to advise whether I test more of my bloods first like oestrogen ( I've been on 25 mg patches since complete hysterectomy with oophorectomy in 2010-I was overcome then with uncontrollable bleeding.).

can help me please as I will need to respond to this doctor within a week

Ps do I need to ask to have a referral to an endocrinologist???
