Copied from a recent reply I made on another thread:

Actavis is also supplied under Almus and (more recently) Northstar branding.

Almus is owned by Walgreen Boots Alliance. Boots claimed they only supply Almus now. (Not true for 25 microgram tablets, of course, as Actavis do not make them. :-) )

Northstar is owned by AAH (and, in turn, Celesio). Celesio own Lloyds. I would be surprised if you cannot get Actavis or Northstar from Lloyds - including former Sainsbury pharmacies.

And Celesio is owned by US Mckesson.

And is now called:

McKesson Europe AG

On 12 September 2017, Celesio AG has officially announced its renaming to McKesson Europe AG, based on the shareholders’ decision at the Annual General Meeting 2017. Documents of Celesio AG remain documents of McKesson Europe AG.

Some recent research found folk upset to discover that Boots was not a homely Nottingham company anymore. The ownership web of pharmacies is complex and probably as bad as the complex ownership of many pharma companies.

I have just been prescribed North Star brand of Levothyroxine 100mcg. For years I have used the Actavis brand and noticed immediately that the tablet box was bigger and the tablets too. I took them over several days and I thought I had caught some sort of virus. Symptoms were, headache, racing heart, weakness, sore joints, slightly swollen throat, feeling so ill and also burping and then upset tummy all day. I decided to stop the North Star brand and recovered. Two days later I tried them once more and the symptoms reappeared within a few hours and worse this time. I feel completely dreadful and feel stressed and as if I’m not coping. I’ve sent an email to North Star but haven’t had a reply. I am going to visit my chemist on Mon to see if they will prescribe my normal Actavis brand again. Strangest thing is, even though the box says North Star, it is an Actavis patient Info leaflet inside the box. This is so worrying because these tablets are definitely not the same as Actavis and I am looking grey and feeling absolutely awful.

Has anyone else experienced the same or similar symptoms?

Hi Chizzle,

I am having side effects using Northstar, Dizziness, Gas in stomach, bit of a chest tightness.

Recently I have received another drug brand called Mercury Pharma. Hope the symptoms disappear.
