Hi, were you given it for being hyper? If so, I remember feeling just the same. Found it very hard to take the first step. If you are frightened, take a half or a quarter to start with. I actually found a lower dose reduced my anxiety well anyway - 10mg. Good luck. Sorry this reply is short.

Yeah for hyper and Graves, Iv took it now after a full blown panic attack lol I snapped it in half and just took 20mg x

Hi, did the Propranolol work? Hope you are feeling a bit better.

I find a tablet lasts me about four/five hours before it starts to wear off. Keep a note and then you can dose yourself up again before the worst of the hyper kicks in again.

You might find you have some side effects to begin with. I got a very tight chest feeling which I didn't like at all and I nearly gave up with them, but it wore off. If you feel too fuzzy try a slightly lower dose and maybe work back up?

Hopefully your carbimazole will kick in in a week or two and that should make you feel better, then you won't need the beta blockers so much. I couldn't believe the relief when it started working for me.

Do, however, get a prompt first blood test once you are on Carbimazole as it worked very quickly for me and I was hypo within three weeks! Probably because I likely don't in fact have Graves but thyroiditis... I was glad I got a blood test done at three weeks and I wish it had been at two weeks.

I was given it too when my gp doubled my levo (duh) and I ended up in A&E with severe palps. It was fine to take and better than that IT WORKS :)

I've been taking it since March this year for Graves Disease. I take two 40mg a day. Take it, it definitely helps with racing heart and anxiety! I can't be without it yet!

why are you so afraid of beta blockers? They are so calming-you will feel better. They are not addictive or dangerous & its not forever.

I felt the same about anti depressants for YEARS.Now I am on a low dose & will wean myself off slowly, but will use them again if i need to.I now see them as a friend, not a foe,due to feeling SO much better.

The symptoms are more scary than taking the meds..I promise you, I'm further along with my journey but I promise you that the Carbimazole and beta-blockers will help you start to make you feel so much better than you do now

I have suffered from generalised anxiety disorder(GAD)since a toddler,& that includes fear of illness & side effects of medication,so I do understand your anxiety.

Wishing you well

please take them, I was prescribed them and they make you feel so much better. I've not taken them for a while now as my symptoms have improved and my palpitations have gone, having said that if I felt I needed one I wouldn't hestitate in doing so.

Don't be afraid

I've got Graves, propanalol aren't addictive or anything to worry about. I am absolutely fine on the carbimazole too. Takes time for carb to start working, at least 6 weeks, so the propanalol is there to ease the hyper symptoms while the carb kicks in.
