Too much iron ?

Hi, Had test results this week for Essential Diet Check and it shows 29.59 for iron (range 6.60 to 26.00) and 166 for ferritin (range 13 to 150). Obviously these are noted as being high which is odd as I don't take supplements for iron and only eat red meat a couple of times a week. Anybody got any ideas please? Thanks.

Well, high iron is as bad as low. But I don't think it is high enough for haemochromatosis. These are some symptoms of high iron/ferritin:

stomach pain

heart palpitations or chest pains

unexplained weakness

joint pain

unexplained fatigue

Can be caused by problems with liver or spleen, or just indicate inflammation. Some related conditions include:

rheumatoid arthritis

hyperthyroidism

Still’s disease

type 2 diabetes

leukemia

Hodgkin’s lymphoma

Hi I also had this sort of result from my Blue Horizons blood test. The doctor's note suggested that it can be a sign of general inflammation. I have fibromyalgia as well as hypothyroidism so I guessed it is connected with that. I plan another test this week and if the results the same I guess I will show it to my GP.

Haemochromatosis tends to be connected to a Celtic gene
