Too much iron after supplements

In January I made my iron tests. They looked a little low in range.

In April I started to take iron supplements. After 4 weeks I stopped them for a week and then retested (in a different lab).

January

Serum iron level: 16 ( 9 - 30 umol/L)

Serum transferrin: 28 ( 25 - 45 umol/L)

Transferrin saturation index: 0.29 (0.0 - 0.45)

Ferritine: 63 (15 - 150 ug/L)

April

Serum iron level: 28,6 (6,60 - 25,90 umol/L) too high

Serum transferrin: 2560(1800 - 3800 mg/L)

Transferrin saturation index: 49 (15 - 50 %)

Ferritine: 65 (10 - 204 Ng/ml)

I can not understand how it happened that my iron is so high so fast...unless it became high already in March before the 2nd test. Anyway what could I do to make it optimal? Is it possible I have any MTHFR problem?

Since March I started to use iron pans. I wonder whether I should stop it.

My husband says lactoferrin is good to try. I would like to hear more options.

Thank you in advance.

It is perfectly possible that you have an MTHFR problem. It's very common.

The following links are all from people who've found themselves in the same situation as you. I've answered as best I can, mainly with links for them to read :

Hope this helps.

Rather complicated but that video is the best. Stored iron in the ferritin needs to be low.

I have to admit that I haven't got into iron yet, it seems even more complicated than thyroid hormones. One of my little mysteries (and one or two others on this site) is how you can successfully boost your iron but still be low in ferritin that being necessary for the thyroid processes to take place optimally. I have not looked at your video yet but will, maybe it will answer that mystery.

Having low ferritin is a cause of extreme fatigue in many women.
