Stool changed colour .can this be dietary

Hi everyone . I ask for your help once again .I have tried to find answers elsewhere and on here .so as not to waste anyone's time .so thank you in advance .

I am hashimoto and to aid reduction in my residual symptoms since medical help reached limit . As in blood levels in range on liothyronine.

I like many of you went gluten free about 4 years ago .and may this year took the plunge and went dairy and sugar and aspartame free .I also "went"alcohol and soy free . (I had negligible amounts of latter two before this).

Gradually I am having more and more bright yellow stool .sometimes it's beige to grey . I hardly ever pass my normal stool .which was dark brown .I also was constipated for last 30 years or more. And the new diet since may has made me pass soft formed stool .which is great except for the colour .I also have to rush to the toilet almost .

I am going to get my bloods done for liver tests and full blood count renal profile etc just in case .

But other less sinister reasons would be nice to know of

Thank you from worried

Poppy

Have you had a comprehensive stool analysis and been seen by a Gastroentologist yet about this? Odd colored appearance or abnormal stool and urgency are usually indicators of something going on with our body! And it usually means you will not be absorbing your nutrients with impaired digestion issues to boot. I would have a lab analysis done asap and get a referral to a gastro.

I had yellow stool

And needed to go toilet quickly. It passed after 6 months and my doctor said colour is normally diet and sometimes Your stomach gets upset and takes a while To return to normal. Eat more fibre and you can cut out wheat or dairy for a short while it helped my Gut return to normal. It also can be like that if you are stressed or anxious. I'm not doctor but this is what mine said to me and I've had several episodes of this and normally sorts itself Out over time

Might be a gallbladder problem or a liver problem, or possibly parasites. For more info, this link may be a starting point for research :

Thankyoou Humanbean

I thought gardiasis. As had an episode of severe stomach ache lethargy nausea and yellow stool months ago when only gluten free ( and for 3 years) .it only lasted about 4 days but was very ill .no diarrhoea no vomiting . Just bright yellow foul stool and nausea terribly and abdo pain . And most of this stool business has been since then .

Anyway will see blood results and go from there .

Thank you so much for your concern and advice

You have cut out so many things from your diet could it be lack of nutrition i.e. are you eating enough fibre, veggies, eggs for iron, just a thought?

poppppy in reply toJoyia

Hi Thank you for your reply .very kind .I am not sure what to eat to be honest . Probably I thought it was hard enough to give up dairy and sugar .so I shouldn't have to do more than that lol .

And at first felt marvellous .

Guess now I need to look into it more about what nutrients I may have lost by losing dairy .

I am definitely having more veg and fruit .and lots of almond milk .well 300 ml a day .loads of water .2 to 3 litres a day .

Not always getting 5 a day .

Eggs probably average of 4 a week .

I have gf food cereal each day .maybe I need less gf substitutes. But always had them before strange stool .

Anyway bloods first and rule out the worst scenarios I guess

Thanx for calming me meanwhile

Just a thought - some B vitamins make my urine more yellow and other discharges yellow, could it be that?

poppppy profile image
poppppy in reply tothyr01d

Thank you for sharing that. Appreciated .just thought .my other discharge has been yellow at times .I have been taking selenium .sertraline for years and liothyronine .no b vits .

Had my bloods done yesterday .and if they are ok .will ask for stool tests .and was wondering if faster transit of stool due to success of reduction in thyroid anti bodies due to new diet .the diet is the liver protocol feom "hashimotos protocol "book recommended to reduce thyroid anti bodies .by Isabella wentz . My thought was my tablets now need adjusting so need t3 retesting
