Hi love don.t worry. Wires are attatched to your head wuth a kind of glue and are attatched to a box around your waist.you go home and come bacj every day for u think it was 3 days .all the information is collected each day and downloaded on a computer.

They ask you lots of questions about lifestyle.sleep. meds and so on.it takes awhile to get a conclusion.if you have sleep apnea you breath with the help of a mask .and asmalk machine at night.which helps you to keep breathing .and take the machine back to appointments.to keep all information .updated .nothing scarie.but you will look funny.all the best chill.kathy xx

I had a sleep apnoea test where I had to take a small machine home which straps around your waist and chest with wires attached to chest, wrist with sticky pads and a mask attached to tubes to the machine. Its nothing to worry about. If your test is the same its not painful just a little uncomfortable to sleep in. Good luck. Joolz

Are you optimally treated for your thyroid - as there can be a link.

Reading your post/thread of six months ago there was discussion about the various meds you are taking affecting the uptake of Thyroid meds. Do you have any recent results for the thyroid - also B12 - Folate - Ferritin - VitD ?

They took me in fof ond night. Had things on head and cannot remember where else. Sleep was measured over night. It was extremely mild and said it should not be causing me to be so sleepy during day. I decided enough was enough and went back on T3. Was then discharged from sleep apnea clinic. The teason I was there in first place was because GP told me I must stop T3 to get my TSH within normal range and he was not going to admit he was wrong. By the way you should not be driving until you have had all clear from clinic. It is a notifyable condition. Vindictive GP was grinning when he told me this. Another reason to go back on T3

Sorry ~ it's an old thread ~ but am to understand by your reply that you no longer had sleep apnea when on T3 ? I'm in a terrible state and have suffered since 2009 ~ can't breathe at all lying down ~ think mines due to muscle weakness ~ never tried T3 (but hope to) do you think it would help? I'm desperate for sleep x

Yes on T3 no longer tired all day. Was discharged. There are many reasons for sleep apnea. The clinic did not care why there job was just to give machines and monitor. One woman had been for years when she found out it was her jaw out if line.

Thank you for responding ~ I have various problems to do with thyroxine and I think T3 is probably what I need GP and various specialists are useless just give out inhalers which are no good when you're asleep!! I've never been to apnea clinic ~ how did you manage to get referred ~ was it your GP? Do you buy your own T3? Sorry for all the questions x

It is a very long story. I started getting T3 prescribed by private doctor after private blood test showed I was below range. After a while I continued buying it myself but then continued with NDT. After several years on it, and feeling great, my GP got panicky because of low TSH and threatened me to stop taking the T3 (I had not told him it was NDT). Anyway thought I would do as I was told. Began to get all symptoms back including the fatigue. He then referred me to the sleep clinic saying it was because I could have sleep apnea. Sleep clinic tested me and said I had it very mildly but that would not be causing such fatigue. I knew this and possibly they did too, but they were not there to diagnose or go into the whys or wherefores. They just dealt with sorting out the cpap machine. It is a hospital ward where you stay overnight attached to electrodes, or whatever they call them. You go to sleep and they monitor you. Next day you are given a cpap machine and shown how to use it. You have to wear it every night and it records your sleep pattern. I was not having this when I knew it was the T3 causing me to be so fatigued and putting on weight, so I started taking it again, lost a few pound, was no longer fatigued during the day, and got discharged.

I see ~ so now you're just buying your own T3 without a prescription and GP doesn't give you the dreaded Levo ~ he just monitors you and you're not tired all day? I probably need to see a private Dr first like you. Thank you for your replies x

After 12 years of buying it myself without prescription, I finally found an NHS endo who decided to do all the tests and found that I do need T3 so I now have it prescribed together with levo. So I have a combination prescribed. However they are trying to stop the T3 but as I cannot function without it and they just have to look at their records to see when I am taking the T3 I hardly ever need to go to the doctor but without it I am a regular every few days with something or other.

You have to have DVLA permission and if clinic say you are coping well you will get that permission. You have to advise DVLA otherwise you might find you are not insured.

My test took place over one night, there would be no reason to be driving or doing anything else with the gear on during the day. They told me I was 'marginal' and needed a machine.

It does work, although I only had two nights when I could sleep with the thing on. I felt great those two mornings. Problem was that I could rarely sleep - which was a big price to pay for the occasional really good night's sleep.

It is not just driving with the cpap machine on as that is only used at night anyway. Sleep apnea is a notifiable condition and has to be notified to the DVLA. This does not mean you cannot drive if the DVLA has renewed your licence although you should not be until you get the OK from them. They might decide to restrict it insofar as you might not be allowed to drive a mini bus or something like that. However if you are in an accident and your insurance company find that you have this and it has not been notified to DVLA and that you might therefore not have a valid driving licence, you might find they will not pay out on your insurance. You are also supposed to notify your insurance company too anyway. I wonder though just how many people are driving around not knowing this.

Wow, I didn't know that. Count me as one of the people driving around not knowing.
