Yes, after 20 years on thyroxine a Gp finally told me that levels can fluctuate all the time and are affected by things like illness, viruses etc, or having a very stressful time or doing too much - makes sense as your body cannot make more when needed if like me your thyroid has been removed. It only became apparent as I had to have several tests before I could have a knee op, and the levels had gone wrong each winter after tests were taken when I was just developing a sore throat & cough - but went back to normal in the summer without altering the dose!
I am amazed how few health professionals seem aware of this, but have now had it confirmed by other sources.
Were both tests done under the same circumstances? Time of day? Fasting? TSH is highest early in the morning, and decreases throughout the day. It also decreases after eating.
