How much Levo do you take? And how long have you been on this dose
On Levo we usually need the TSH to be at the lower end of the range, and almost definitely below 2.
The FT4 should be in the upper third or 3/4 of the range - e.g. Around 18-19
Both these indicate you need a dose increase. Usually steps up in 25mcg. Retesting 6-8 weeks after.
If your GP is reluctant to increase the dose it might be useful to have copy of the article that appeared in a Pulse by Prof Toft (Top endocrinologist ) if you email Louise at Thyroid Uk - louise.roberts@thyroiduk.org.uk
She will email it to you
Also ask GP to test your vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12 - these are often too low for our thyroid hormones to be able to work. Again make sure you get copies of results
Last thing .....you need to know if cause of thyroid issues is autoimmune, called Hashimoto's. Have you had your antibodies tested, and were they high. If not been tested yet, ask that they can be
You can say, if GP asks that you've asked advice from NHS thyroid support group
I'm on 75mg I've been asked to rebook blood tests in 4-6weeks done that today they upped my dose about 2 months ago without telling me mind so I cancelled the tablets thinking they were wrong
Thank you for the reply
Your doctor has seen the blood tests and has decided on action. What use would considering your symptoms and actually communicating with you be when they are so busy and the prescription is in their power? Ideally have your regular tests and make an appointment to discuss your management with them. They believe that we are easy to treat so we need to keep an eye on them.
