Did you at any time feel good on levothyroxine? Like felt better first and then worse again after an increase or did you never get any better from your symptoms on Levo?

Hi Beenies, I felt 'well' i.e. less ill, on Levo for a very short time. I think my thyroid gland was grateful for whatever it could get after years of being mis-diagnosed. Increasing it made me feel worse as I don't convert well to T3. It didn't last long though and it took NDT to begin to make me feel better. However, everyone is different and many people do well on Levo. People add in T3 as well.

I never felt well on levo. At the time of my diagnosis, my only symptom was massive weight gain. All my symptoms started after I started levo, and I just got worse and worse. I didn't feel any improvement until some T3 was added to my levo.

greygoose I was dosed on high doses of Synthroid . And at first felt well . Then palpitations started . Changed from Synthroid to another T4 and like you added some NDT for my T3 and it made a positive difference .

I was on NDT to start and was absolutely fine. There was a worldwide shortage and the GP put me on levo - I was very, very unwell. Going back onto NDT when it was available did not improve matters much. Saw Dr. P. who told me to introduce small amount of T3 and cut down NDT until I had the right balance. The right balance was all T3.

I was like Schazzoh, my body was so grateful for something, having been diagnosed with hypo with TSH of 76! I lost weight on T4 but after about a year I went downhill again. Now I only take T3

I never felt I improved on levo - was just told by the GP this is a replacement of something your body is not producing - it has no 'drug' effect. So I just thought maybe I'd be worse without it. It took me 7 years to realise it was poisoning me. T3 only now.

I was on Synthroid for 20 years. When I finally got to the right spot for my TSH (.50-1.0) I felt relatively good. However, some of the symptoms never went away. I gained well over 20 pounds and was very cautious in my eating. Didn't matter. My face was always puffy and I was always cold. Then 2 years ago I started having all sorts of issues. Long story short I needed T3. Was on T3 with the Synthroid for a wile but RT3 was over range most of the time so had all kinds of hypo symptoms. I am now on T3 only.
