How likely is this ...

When we can't even get a free T3 test, let alone a test for DIO2 gene problem? Apparently Dame Sally Davies wants the NHS to test DNA for cancer and some other patients in order to get personalised treatment. Do you ever get the feeling that the higher-ups are living on a different planet?

Not just the higher-ups...

Was having a rant to myself today as I drove listening to her on the Jeremy Vine show. Give us strength...... lots of guff about how the UK is trailblazing ....... you can't even carry out the tests required to personalise thyroid treatment.

I had visions of all those people out there saying "Ooh, that's a good idea. They ought to do that." And all we thyroidies saying "[Unprintable]".

My cynicism is getting out of hand.

I am imagining ridiculous situations. In the context of thyroid, perhaps they do eventually recognise DIO2, perhaps those with double DIO2 actually get T3. Of course, there might be dozens of other genes which have at least as much impact as DIO2 - but until they are officially identified as requiring T3, patients will be refused T3. It could become a sort of gene-code lottery... However much your symptoms indicate your need, you will be told you don't need it. Just as now for so many.

We are only on the flat walking towards the mountains. We can see a few high peaks. But that is all.
