I had carpal tunnel op about 18 months ago.

I had both hands operated on for carpal tunnel, both have been very successful.

I had carpal tunnel and trapeziectomy surgery at the same time at the end of February. The recovery has been painful and slow. I've had weekly follow-ups with physio and have worked hard on getting mobility back but it feels a long way off still.

my relatives had the surgery and eventually recovered but some have continuing problems; because they have persisted with their occupation which gives rise to the problem. (music teachers using tacky keyboards in the standing position). one thing they emphasised was the need to follow the post op therapy.

I've only heard of people who have had the surgery and wished that they hadn't but for every bad story there must be lots of good ones. I'm a therapist and maintain that surgery is a last resort as the surgery can cause more problems with scar tissue. My husband had carpal tunnel problems but these went away when he was treated with T3 as his levels were low. Have you tried physio. or acupuncture? I think that I would try all alternatives before surgery, but that's just my opinion.

Hey everyone. It's been a long time since I last wrote. I had cubital tunnel surgery over a month ago. Oh my gosh. The only difference now is that it is even more painful, and puffy and so uncomfortable. It is the sort of pain that you can't get relief from for a single second. What happened? What sort of pain relief helps? Also recent blood tests showed b12 deficiency (again needing injections) and undetectable vitamin D (again). Any thoughts?

Hi Zander. I replied about a month ago when I was about 3 months post surgery. I was still in a lot of pain and my hand and wrist were still swollen. I was taking painkillers every 4 hours for months - just not like me but no choice. The pain has lessened but my wrist is still very uncomfortable. I also have reduced flexibility in it so I went to see the consultant again. He was sympathetic but said it was impossible to predict outcome of carpal tunnel surgery and recovery and pain can last a long time. Are you doing physio? What does physiotherapist advise? They see lots of people post op and can be quite helpful.

Hi. Sorry for delay in responding. I had an ulna nerve release due to impingement at the elbow. Also a carpal tunnel release. My symptoms were only ulna nerve

I had no carpal tunnel symptoms but the nerve conduction study showed mild carpal and moderate ulna at the elbow so they did both. 6 weeks later and I am beside myself with the relentless pain and increasing weakness in my hand and fingers. Nothing helps. I don't know what to do. I really can't handle the pain and I don't know what to do.

I'm now five months post surgery. My wrist is still very inflexible and my thumb is still numb and I get sharp painful reminders if I move my hand too much. I've finally given up on the painkillers (just paracetamol) as they didn't seem to give much relief. However I'm not in constant pain which I was in pre surgery.

Hi Penny. I agree to try everything b4 surgery. My ulna nerve symptoms were so debilitating that I had to have surgery. I had no carpal tunnel symptoms but they did that at same time. Well my ulna nerve symptoms are exactly the same. Relentless and debilitating. To add to it I have a 5cm scar from wrist up middle of palm. To make my horror story worse the area around the scar is soooo very tight and swollen it limits my wrist movement. What the hell has happened and what do you suggest I try. Thanks

If you PM me with your whereabouts I can see if there is a Scarworker near you.

Hi. Tricky one. I am in Australia. So come on, quick, where is my nearest??. No seriously, what is a scar worker - apart from the obvious. Tell me just what they do and I'll take it from there. Thanks.

Hi team. I know I post a lot but you guys are so much easier to talk to, or type to. I am wondering if I post you some results with ranges, it shouldn't matter that I'm in Australia. The testing isn't different is it. U still interpret ok?

Hi everyone. I'm back. Have just spent the past week in hospital to try and get to the bottom of my pain. If you look at all my previous rants then you know I had the carpal and cubital tunnel surgery nearly 3 months ago. Terrible pain since. After lots of tests and decent history taking, a diagnosis has been made. I have a C8 cervical lesion. I also have Erythromelalgia. I am still in information overload. Lots of stuff to come. Has anyone got or are in fact aware of what lies ahead. Thanks
