Hello, I'm new here. Thanks for all the great topics and discussions! I have Hashimotos and my Endocrinologist says, everything is just fine because my dosage is perfect. Right....or...NOT. :) I have swelling in my face, around my eyes, headache at the temple areas and occipital ridge, lymph pain behind ears and on and on it goes. Any thoughts regarding these symptoms? thank you.

hitmus,

Welcome to our forum,

What and for how long have you been medicating ? ? ..

Levothyroxine takes 7/8 days to be absorbed before it starts working and the goal is to restore a euthyroid status. You sound under-medicated but hypothyroid symptoms can lag behind good biochemistry by weeks//months.

Levothyroxine takes up to 6 weeks to initially saturate the body which will only tolerate small increases at any one time and your doctor should retest thyroid hormone levels after 6 weeks and adjust the dose according to results.

People with thyroid issues often have vitamin deficiencies. Ask your doctor to test Vit B12, Vit D, folate and ferritin.

It is important to take your pill on an empty stomach with a glass of water, 1 hour before food, 2 hours before supplements and 4 hours before calcium, iron or vit D supplements.

Hashimotos is diagnosed by elevated thyroid antibodies which bring inflammation and eventually other illness to our bodies. They can also impact how thyroid hormones work. Many members have found a gluten free diet has helped in reducing antibody levels.

Post any test results complete with ranges (numbers in brackets) for members to comment.
