Hypertension secondary to hyperparathyroidism?

Heloise profile image

Hi Mtraynor, actually this is all too common with Hashimoto's. Everything is sluggish from digestion to nutrition to toxins building up which all puts stress on your adrenals which then raises cortisol and now you need cholesterol to deal with that. Your stomach probably lacks the acid to metabolize amino acids and minerals which means B12, etc, are now going to be deficient which is going to interfere with your thyroid hormone if you still have any. The last thing you want to do is take statins. That cholesterol is being used to make corticosteroids and sex hormones. Sorry to paint a bleak picture but you can take steps once you understand the process.

As you can see, it's a bit complicated but doctors don't seem to look at this in a holistic way but this man does.

Heloise you must have a treasure trove of all these very informative videos and websites I can't imagine you must spend an incredible amount of time - you are such a wealth of information thank you so much .

You know when I think about it Dr. Bergman and Isabella Wentz and others that you've posted they're all saying the same thing . Isabella Wentz says 80% of her Hashimoto's patients improve when they illuminate gluten alone. Dr. Bergman is saying the same thing only he adds the component of bromide as the reason - that flour is bleached with bromide which is fake stuff for the thyroid it imitates the thyroid hormone. And he like why says the same thing as Isabella Wentz - when he says healthy water vegetables and low stress is the cure for Hashimoto's it's that simple . Dr. Bergman says don't eat fast food and you won't have Hashimoto's . ( I know that's an oversimplification but basically that's one of the things he saying ) Dr Wentz - Provides a list of all the things we should not eat and all the things we should eat and again it's the same thing . Most common thing Dr. Wentz hears is "what can we eat ?" And asked her too. Dr. Bergman says just get rid of the American way of eating easy enough right ?

Anyway thanks again for providing yet another huge really informative link . What a great education we receive here !

You are sweet, dtate. Desperation is a big motivator, lol! Dodging all the toxins in this world is really, really difficult but if you can get to that tipping point......I don't know if you have seen some recent posts but I've had one symptom that has stuck with me and I think these two supplements might give that final push, unfiltered apple cider vinegar with each meal and proteolytic enzymes. Izabella recommends Wobenzyme which was probably the first version from Germany but there are more. Actually Dr. Bergman has a video with a woman who discusses these enzymes and it is very, very persuasive.

Thank you for your kind words dtate. I do work hard at this.

I would like to communicate with you privately concerning the vinegar, the enzymes, and Isabella Wentz. How do we do that? Swapping e-mails would be my preference. (If that is an agreeable thing for you, of course!)

Mtraynor,

I don't have hyperparathyroidism, but noticed your post because I had all your symptoms (and a load more), previous to being diagnosed with Hashi.

After medicating Levothyroxine some things improved slightly but other symptoms appeared & I became further unwell.

TFT's were all perfect (including FT3) but I felt as if I were slowly dying. I started investigating and after four miserable years, I introduced a little T3 meds. Suddenly everything started improving and some symptoms like awful palps literally stopped overnight.

Other symptoms took longer and another year on I have since switched to NDT and taken another big health improvement.

I don't know if it is the duration of our being undiagnosed or our genetic makeup or other reasons but T4 mono- therapy doesn't always work for everybody.

I tell you this because it is a long road to get better but possible if we understand our illness. Excellent video from Heloise above. Also an interesting read is "The Root Cause" by Isabella Wentz.

Do you have gut issues resulting in absorption and thyroid hormone conversion issues ?

Have you managed to reduce high thyroid antibodies ?

Have you addressed any nutrient/iron levels ?

I wish you well.

Do not take statins. Your cholesterol will come down with the correct medication. This is all autoimmune. Get an ANA test anti nuclear antibodies people with Hashimoto's are prone to getting Lupus, Diabetes and the other Autoimmune things. do Not treat the symptoms, treat the causes.

Calm your immune system down

Come off all processed food all sugar gluten and Dairy.

You need to take urgent action. You also need more thyroid tests your medication might need increasing

Go on a low GI diet. Cut out fruit except cherries, check the Carbohydrates on food packets where it says "of which sugar" needs to be less than 10%.

Breakfast cereal is particularly bad.

Take care you...... Back to doctor fast

Yes quite common with Hashimotos.

NDT helped me as we need T3!

My cholesterol came back down to normal very quickly. There is a higher chance of heart complaints because a lot of us don't convert T4 to T3 adequately .T3 is the active hormone, five times more active than T4. It's what we need, stupid Drs!

Are you gluten, casein (cows milk) and soy free? Should really help.

Rhodiola and Siberian ginseng are great for adrenals, is really helping me with my high cortisol. Starting to feel less stressed.

Look at my past posts there's a list of things I've found that have helped and others too.

Good luck.

I suffer from high cortisol so have bought some rhodiola. You really think it helps?

Katepots profile image
Katepots in reply to Girlslovescifi

Yes I feel less wired and when I get stressed I get OCD compulsions and they are a lot less. I take Siberian ginseng with it too as that's a stress reducer.

Holy basil also good for lowering cortisol.

High BP and high cholesterol used to be automatic indicators for doctors to investigate thyroid dysfunction. Diabetes is also related to thyroid dysfunction. Bottom line: Everything can be controlled by getting enough thyroid hormone in all the cells of the body.

"Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) has an intersecting underlying pathology with thyroid dysfunction. ... Insulin resistance is also associated with thyroid dysfunction. Hyper- and hypothyroidism have been associated with insulin resistance which has been reported to be the major cause of impaired glucose metabolism in T2DM." Apr 4, 2013

Good thing you are "unable to take statins." They are very harmful to those with hypothyroidism (among others).

It is highly counterproductive to take cholesterol lowering drugs when ample thyroid hormone will do it naturally. Your body needs cholesterol to carry out its tasks (including helping your thyroid produce the hormones you need.)

"If you have an underactive thyroid (hypothyroidism), treatment may be delayed until this problem is treated. This is because having an underactive thyroid can lead to an increased cholesterol level, and treating hypothyroidism may cause your cholesterol level to decrease, without the need for statins. Statins are also more likely to cause muscle damage in people with an underactive thyroid.
