I've never had a jab and don't know much of it. But if it only contains B12 I would assume the answer is no, folate is B9. However I found this on wiki for you so maybe there's something I don't know:

Folic acid, B12 and iron

There is a complex interaction between folic acid, vitamin B12 and iron. A deficiency of one may be "masked" by excess of another so the three must always be in balance.[52][53][54]

Hi - no they are 2 different vitamins. They do work together, however, so I would be inclined to ensure that your folate stays high with b12 supplementation in any form, as it won't be effective otherwise. Methylfolate is the most bioavailable form.

Ninja1,

No. If your folate is low and you are having B12 injections your GP should prescribe folic acid to raise folate.

please take a look at info on PAS forum, eg pinned posts

if you are having problems with several vitamins then you probably have an absorption problem - particularly if you are having problems with B12. You may initially have a lowering of folate levels when you have a B12 shot because the two are used together and if you have been B12 deficient for a while then you will suddenly start using more folate. Best folate is from diet. Folic acid is generally okay for people if they need to supplement.

Both B12 and folate deficiency lead to macrocytosis - a type of anaemia in which red blood cells are larger and rounder than normal which makes them less efficient in carrying oxygen to your cells. This takes a few months to clear as the deformed blood cells are only replaced by healthy new red blood cells as the old ones wear out and die - and the average life of a red blood cell is 4 months.

Could that be why we are only called to give blood not less than 4 monthly?

sorry not sure what you are referring to, ie giving blood for what? and there could be other reasons.

Maybe I should have used the word, "Donate". I'm a blood donor. Sorry if you were puzzled, we talk about it as 'giving blood'.

thanks for clarifying - just that 'giving blood' is also used sometimes for blood tests.

really don't know what the reason would be for 4 months on blood donations - it may be that rebuilding red blood cells is part of that but think that this actually happens a lot quicker ie the cells lost in donating blood are made up a bit quicker.
