Hi all, had investigations for high Bp and picked up TSH was 4.43 so they've repeated it four months later and it's 6.27 but T4 22 so normal. Do have some of symptoms but will they treat if T4 normal ? Thanks

Welcome to our forum and high BP and hypothyroidism can be interconnected. When you give results always give the ranges, the reason being that labs differ in their ranges - just to complicate thinngs even more.

Your TSH is over range and doctor should prescribe levothyroxine. I shall give you a link which may be helpful and your GP hasn't tested T3 which they don't often do which puzzles us on this forum. T3 being the only active hormone required in our receptor cells. I think they are completely unaware of this fact. He could also double-check by giving you checks which you haven't had. Symptoms should be a priority.

If your GP refuses you can show him a copy of the above and say you are a member of the NHS Choices Thyroiduk.org.uk for help/assistance with dysfunctions of the thyroid gland.

Blood tests should always be the earliest possible, fasting (you can drink water) and allow 24 hours gap between last dose (when you are on hormone replacement) and take afterwards.

Hi thanks for this, have also found out I have positive anti TPo antibodies of 512ml ( should be under 5) . I am seeing an endocrinologist privately tomorrow as Gp been pretty useless. Anything particularly to mention? Making a list of symptoms etc ..... thanks 😊

I am sorry at delay in replying. I am away from home at present and having difficulty connecting to internet.

I hope the endocrinologist was sympathetic and helpful to you.

If he wasn't interested in antibodies and dismissed them , email louise.roberts@thyroiduk.org.uk for a copy of Dr Toft's Pulse article and read what he says about antibodies (which should be treated - even if TSH is not raised high enough for diagnosis.

No worries Shaws , he was very sympathetic and useful and told me a lot more regarding the different parts to the condition. Thanks again for your help .
