My TSH is 0.01 and free T4 is 14.2. I am on 20 mcgm of T3 and 150 mcgm of T4. I feel fine but doctor says my TSH is too low and I am putting on weight. Can my weight gain be caused by low TSH?

Weight gain
sheila747 It's very unlikely that weight gain is caused by low TSH. More likely that you are not on enough dose of thyroid meds and still have some hypo symptoms.
Was FT3 tested? When on T3 it is important to keep an eye on your FT3 level, you would think a doctor prescribing T3 would know that! He should also know that when on T3 then TSH can become suppressed and FT4 can lower.
What is the range for FT4?
Don't let your GP lower your dose on your low TSH alone. If he wants to do that challenge him to prove that you are overmedicated by testing FT3. Only if FT3 is over range would you be overmedicated.
My latest endo on hearing I was taking NDT said that in that case your TSH will be suppressed and can even be zero! Last test it was 0.01 and he also said that FT4 can fall to halfway down in range as body won't hang into it if taking the right amount of T3
My doctor always requests a T3 blood test along with the others but the lab wont do it. My FT4 was 14.2
The only way I can get a T3 blood test is to do it privately. Although my doc always asks for one, the lab wont do it!
That's typical I'm afraid sheila747 The lab gets to make the decision and I believe that FT3 is only done when TSH is suppressed.
If you want to test privately, Medichecks have a special offer on at the moment, see Lyn's post here healthunlocked.com/thyroidu...
and their Thyroid Monitoring test, which checks TSH, FT4 and FT3, is on offer today at £29 instead of £39 medichecks.com/thyroid-func...
Personally, in your position, I would do that test, present the results to your GP, and as long as your FT3 is within range then refuse to reduce meds. If he insists, then again tell him that you've proved you're not overmedicated and if he doesn't like your private test results then he needs to get FT3 tested himself to show you are overmedicated before you agree to a reduction.
NO. It is more likely that TSH can become irrelevent when at low levels.
