I guess everything is good for now.

Today I went to see my Specialist, and she went over yesterday's blood level only on my TSH, it was 3.09 I asked her about my Free 4, but she said it wasn't needed. I have been feeling good, and she told me I am doing better and to just go ahead and stay on the 5 mg Methamazole once a day, and come back in 8 weeks, and my blood drawn in 4 weeks, I hope it stays well. Any advise while I wait until my next visit? Thanks so much, I love this forum.

Sadly the TSH tells you very little if you can't relate it to the free T4. If your TSH is going high but your T4 is low, you could be going hypo.

I know you have graves and hashimotos, I am not any kind of expert on graves, but I think your doctor knows even less! Can you get another?

I wish I knew of another Doctor with a good reputation here in town, since this one is the best in town....have a Doctor's appointment today with regulat Doctor I'll ask her if she knows about it, and maybe she knows of any Specialist in that field she could refer too. Thanks so much.

If your 'specialist' is regulating your meds by TSH alone he or she is WRONG. Run away!

I told her why only Tsh? She said didn't need the Free 4 since I look good...feel good but have been feeling tired and sleepy lately and hair loss, she said I should be getting it back. Thanks so much...now I'm wondering if I should make a run for it...

Sarajuarez2912,

While you are feeling good I wouldn't worry about FT4. TSH 3.09 indicates you may becoming over medicated on 5mg. If you start feeling tired, cold, slow and gaining weight you will need to reduce dose. If that happens I would insist on FT4 being tested and would consider changing doctor if she refuses.

Really I am starting to feel all those symptoms Clutter, I'm starting to get sleepy and tired more lately, even tho I'm feeling better (I really thought it was the nice weather..too much rain)gained some nice weight on me 134 from 129 even tho I'm 5'3 but don't need to gain more...and lately been getting cold. But haven't had the hyper symptoms since I was diagnosed with both hashimoto and graves. Oh i did tell her about my hair loss, since my hair use to be thick, she said she couldnt do nothing about it, but believes ill get it all back. I guess if it gets a little bit whack with me i guess ill request to see her or would it be okay to go on 2.5 Methamazole once a day, since I'm taking 5 mg Methamazole once a day, and I won't see my Specialist till May 5...longer than before for a visit, I guess cause she told me I'm doing good. Thanks so much Clutter for advise.

Sarajuarez2912,

See how you feel on 2.5mg. If you start to feel hyper then go back to 5mg.

She onced had me for a month on 2.5 mg but put me back on 5 mg. I'll ask my Doctor if she could request for my Free 4. I don't know if she could but I will ask. Also my iron since it was low last I heard of 4 months ago, and Specialist never checked it again. Thanks Clutter. I certainly will consider going on 2.5 mg.

You are already above the AACE TSH range (0.3-3.0). So you are probably heading for hypo. But the doctor can't REALLY know what is going on, thyroid-level-wise, unless she takes FT3 and FT4. Assuming you were diagnosed via a TSI antibody test? Did the doctor say anything to you about methods to reduce antibodies - i.e. nutrition and environmental medicine?

No she did not tell me about nutrional and environmental invorement, she never does. My Regular Doctor has me Schedule for some blood work on my Thyroid level even a Free 4 and iron and B4, hopefully then I can post it up here. Thanks alot.
