Bald/ sparse patch the size of a 10 pence on scalp after short haircut! Also starting puberty. Could his levels be off or is this something else? Levels last checked in Nov. On 100mcg. How often should he get checked. Up until now it's been yearly. I'm worried for him!

Hair loss in 10yr old with congenital hypothyroid
Hi, losing hair is usually a sign of being under medicated but it can also happen due to deficiencies in particular vitamin levels. It can vary greatly which one but is often iron. Getting his levels checked yearly isn't very good as he has a massive amount of time to decline. Do you know what they do test when they do check him? Ft4? FT3? TSH? Any vitamin levels?
check his iron serum ferritin, b12, d3 , selenium, vitamin A...many things can cause hair loss , also does he eat enough protein, omega 3s, many things can cause this.....so many is why it is hard to diagnose someone with hair thinning...hormones to vitamins to deficiencies to inadequate exercise, to low thyroid or too high thyroid...too high or too low can cause hair loss in any category..
do you have a link of this so I can share...he is really smart
thanks I see it now
